  • Identical instruments arrangement in two different venues

    Hello,

I am using the latest versions of VEP 7 and MIR 3D.

In VEP 7 I have 2 channels of violins which are represented accordingly in MIR in venue A: on the stage one violin is left and the other one right. So far so good.

In MIR I add another venue B. I understand that I can move the two violins from venue A to venue B so there one violin again is left, the other right. Okay.

Now I can compare what venue sounds better but in order to listen again how everything sounds in venue A I again have to move the violins, namely from B to A. But then B is empty.

What I want to achieve is the following:
MIR showing two venues A and B that contain identical instruments arrangement so that I can just click on the corresponding venue tab rather than moving them from one venue to another.

    So, specifically:
Venue A: violin right, violin left
Venue B: same violin right, same violin left

I tried to achieve this with presets management but was unable to do so. Is that possible at all and if yes, how exactly?

    Thank you

  • You _could_ do this by creating two Venue Presets*) with the respective Roles and rely on the Auto Apply feature, but actually I would simply duplicate the two violin channels and use the channel selection features of your DAW or hosting app. This would allow for gapless switching. - Hint: Make sure to carefully match gains, as louder is always "better" for the human ear. 😉 ...)

*) ... then double-click its entrance in the preset browser on the left, or drag-n-drop the preset to the active Venue slot on the right. Maybe this quck'n'dirty screen-cast I created some time ago helps to get the idea accross:

  • Thank you, Dietz.

I might be misinterpreting your little YT video but what you show is two have 2 different arrangements (ABCD and DCBA) for 1 identical venue, correct? You kept the venue and only switched the main mic.

What I would like to achieve is to have 1 identical arrangement (ABCD) for 2 venues. Applying that to your scenario in the YT video: arrangement ABCD in venue "Grosser Saal" and in a second MIR venue tab having arrangement ABCD in venue "Mozartsaal"

In reality I have more instruments than only two violins but I used that example to keep it simple in describing the scenario. If I were to duplicate all channels, then that would be something that I want to avoid. I would also prefer to keep the DAW out of this as I feel it should be a thing only between VEP and MIR.

But maybe I have not fully understood your proposal.

Exactly, but the procedure is the same in your scenario:

Venue Preset 1: Venue A: Role 1 "violin right", Role 2 "violin left"

Venue Preset 2: Venue B: Role 1 "violin right", Role 2 "violin left" (of course, their settings can differ from the Roles used in Preset 1!)

    .. that's about it. 😊

  • Thanks again. I'll give it a try tonight. With my previous attempts it was always the case that when I assigned the preset to venue B and automatically loaded venue A.

Ha, ha ... that chapter wasn't available this morning. Thanks for the quick update.

You have to create _two_ Venue Presets, saved when you had loaded the two different Venues, then it should work as expected.

Errrr ... well, of course it was! 🤔

  • Nope 😜 ... but I found the bug.

It is only available in the en version of the URL: https://www.vsl.info/en/manuals/

It is not available in the de version of the URL: https://www.vsl.info/de/manuals/

  • Oh! That's an oversight of the website team, then! Thanks for pointing it out.

  • No problem.

Talking about the manual: In the MIRacle chapter https://www.vsl.info/de/manuals/mir-pro-3d/miracle it is talked about Density and X-Feed in the text, however, the picture of the plugin doesn't show Density and X-Feed.

That's a version issue - text is about legacy MIRacle that came with Vienna MIR Pro, screenshot is from the completely new, re-programmend version that comes with MIR 3D.
