Just now saw this. Thanks for the update, Paul. Good to read that there is still some optimism for a release in weeks instead of months.

    Hello everybody,

First of all: Thanks for all your input and postings here. We are happy to see that so many of you feel so passionately about this software, and we are doing our very best to justify your support and meet your expectations.

You probably know that Vienna Ensemble Pro development is always a very involved process, as we not only have to deal with a myriad of plug-ins and their ā€œspecialitiesā€ but also with specific solutions for the various DAWs out there. What looks the same from the outside can be VERY different from a technical perspective and calls for a dedicated solutions (which again needs to LOOK the same from the userā€™s perspective).

To use my favorite euphemism I learned from our developers: It can be tricky šŸ˜Š

    STATUS QUO:
We are now in the beta stage for VE PRO 7, to make sure that we have not missed any perspective and also to incorporate input and ideas from our beta team, with real-world situations, stress-tests and compatibility tests, and I am confident that we are on a great path to have VE Pro 7 ready for you within the next weeks.

I am not posting a release date but we are aiming at a release in the last week of march, and we will also post updates of confirmed features as we get further ahead in beta-testing.

On a personal note: What worries me most in this thread is that there are so many ā€œin-fightsā€ about who is right on a topic you have little to no information about. That lack of information is our fault, as we want to publish this information only when itā€™s 100% confirmed.  Iā€™m just saying that itā€™s not a pleasure to watch and we are sorry about all the anger this has caused.

I know that you will get along perfectly fine in the real world, as you are clearly all passionate musicians.

In this spirit: We are all looking forward to the time when we can finally announce more features, and we hope that Epic Orchestra 2.0 helps to bridge the time until we get there.

    All the best from Vienna,
    Paul and the VSL Team

  • Personally,  as Logic Pro X user I don't give a large rodent's hiney about AU 3. ArtZ ID has renedered it totally unnecessary for my uses.

  • IĀ“m currently using VEP v6 with my studio computer and a server that holds my plugins/soundbanks.

I received 3 licenses with v6. Will I now have to buy 2 v7 licensers just to use it with my ordinary setup?

That depends on your exact use. If you only run server instances on the slave computer then you only need 1 license. If you also run server instances on the main computer then you'll need a second license. You only need a license on the computer that runs server instances.

Rats are just medium sized. For a truly large rodent, you want the Capybara:

Didn't know they were considered rodents. And I thought the rats in NYC were big - ever see the video with them carrying pizza slices around?

    edit for additional:

Back on topic - well it's the last week in March and Paul seemed to inimate that we'd see VEPro 7 this week. Personally I think it ain't gonna happen this week/month but late April. Would LOVE to be proven wrong.

  • Just some simple questions:

    WHEN?

    and

    WHAT WILL BE NEW???

The simple answer to both would be only Vienna knows but they won't tell us. A longer answer would include they want to make sure everything works before they tell us which might be admirable but isn't helping to build confidence or morale and goodwill. Those words and their true meaning seem to be missing from Venna's vocabulary. They could at least tell us where they're at and what's nailed down and what isn't quite working right yet. THAT would help calm the masses.

One major stumbling block (for me at least) in all this non-information deal is system requirements. Yes they are up on the product page but telling us what beta testers are finding vis-a-vis those requirements would be great. For instance are they finding the so-called minimum requirements on Macs of Sierra OSX 10.12.6 really should ne High Sierra (which is now considered the recommended operating system)? For many reasons I can't go past that OSX version. Heck even VEPro 7 as it stands leaves out me using my old slave iMac as that runs/ran just fine with OSX 10.10.5. Forget El Crapitan.

  • I am glad they are taking time to test it all out before releasing the final product. Better than what steinberg did with Cubase 10.... where they just rushed the release and had customers be the "beta testers".

Ve pro 6 is working fine for me on my slave pc. I have 4 VE instances, each with 27 kontakt instances (with 16 articulations each) and they are all running smooth. Load time is a bit long (about 35-40 minutes) so I would love to see that improved in Ve Pro 7. And hopefully the Cpu performance will get a slight improvement, I know they said going from Ve Pro 5 to 6, cpu performance improved by 70 or 80 percent, but I didn't notice much difference then.

I got my pre-order with the epic orchestra 2 a couple weeks ago. Been trying the library out and it sounds alright for the most part, but I wouldn't call it a must have... As someone stated above, I would rather see an upgrade to all 3 licences instead of just 1 (even thou I only have 1 slave PC in my studio, I have a remote set-up that I bring around when I travel and would love to just have licences on separate dongles like before)

Anyways... I am patiently waiting for the release notes.

I don't think anyone minds that Vienna is taking their time to bring out VEPro 7; what gets people upset is there's nothing on what is in the new version. All we're told is that there are some new features based on other stuff Vienna has. If they could just tell us what's in there with the usual fine print statemnt to the effect of 'subject to change' I know I'd be happy and I wager so would a lot of others as well.

You say your loading time for that template is 35 to 40 minutes - please tell us you're not loading from a spinner drive but an ssd. Or multiple ssd's. If you're on a Mac Pro cheesegrater putting those ssd's in a pcie card adapter will double the loading speed from if they're in the drive bays.

If you add a SATA card III you will load in 10 times less

The adapter card I'm using IS a SATA 3 card https://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/SSDACL6G.S/

  • Ssd is a must, and batch resave kontakt if you havenā€™t, 30 minutes is awful long for that template

  • Recently I upgraded my system sample drive to use a raid-0 of two SSD on sata3, via pcie bus.

    https://www.sonnettech.com/product/tempossd.html

The benchmark tests showed incredible improvements in raw disk performance through this raid array.

It did not make ANY difference to the VEP project load time.  Before that I was using a single SSD on sata2.  (MacPro 5,1).

All that being said, the longest my system has ever taken to load a VEP project is 1.5 minutes....around 100 channels of VSL instruments.  Even with the single sata2 SSD that is how long it took.  I can't imagine waiting 40 minutes...something is amis.

  • Paul,

For those of us who dived right-in and purchased VEP 7, but already have the Giant Taiko, may we have an alternate incentive?

Besides, wasn't this used as an incentive for someting else? Wasn't it SY Percussion 1??????????

  • Rest assured that youā€˜ll get no answer here (= communication re-invented)

Oh yes multiple ssds of course, and on a PC with double xeon.... Just lots of instruments i guess, and it loads up into about 240gb of ram . I know a couple of fellow composers who have the same "problem", so its normal for a template that size

Where are those ssd's - inside the computer or outside? If outside how are they connected? You do have Kontakt Memory Server disabled right? With that amount of memory (never heard of a machine having that much ram) it sounds like you're having everything load into ram instead of streaming from the ssd's. If so here's a hint - let things stream.

Huge template then.  How many instruments?  If you have thousands, then it is what it is.  This is another area where if VEP update made a substantial improvement for project load times, through parallelism or something...it would be instant buy for me.
