several terabytes beeing displayed is a known and confirmed bug in OS X - meanwhile i'm starting to think it might be actually a bug in the memory management ...
i believe to have read it has been fixed with the 10.4.9 update, but i'm not 100% sure ... at least i'd recommend to run apple's pro application update and don't forget: always reboot before and after you run any updates in OS X to avoid having disturbing processes still loaded in memory.
