  • Synchron Strings I Sibelius Sound Set and Cubase Expression Maps

    Hello!

The latest VSL Soundset Installer for Sibelius (1.0.132) will update the "VE Strings" sound set and the "Vienna Symphonic Library" house style for Sibelius. Now Synchron Strings I (Synchron Player version) can be used with Sibelius as well.

Cubase users can load our new Expression Maps for Synchron Strings I (Synchron Player version) to change articulations.

  • Hi Andi,

I just installed the new soundset and now I get the message "can't load the soundset VE Strings. Substituiting general MIDI instead"

I am running 2018.5 on windows 10 64. Everthing was working fine until the new soundset intall. I wonder if sibilius has changed the install directories again. I know you have had this problem before.

    Thanks,

    Dave

  • Hi Andi,

In my system ( SIbelius 2018.5 on windows 10 64) I cannot find any soundsets at all.  I think what DaveJ sugested could be right !

    Thanks,

    B

  • Hello Dave and Bogdan (and other Windows users)!

The latest Soundset Installer versions have a problem on some Windows computers with the Sibelius 2018.x versions. We will fix this as soon as possible. In the meantime, please download and install the sound sets and the House Style manually.
    http://eu.vsl.co.at/downloader.aspx?FileID=138821

Copy the sound sets (.xml files) to the following folder:
    C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Avid\Sibelius\Sounds

Copy the house style (.lib file) to the following folder:
    C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Avid\Sibelius\House Styles

    Sorry for the inconvinience.

    Best regards,
    Andi

  • Thanks Andi,

So I placed the new soundset and house style in the correct directories. I then imported the new house style to an existing score to test before I moved on. For whatever reason some of the score changes are not being sent to Dimession strings violins 1. I can change articulations fine but for whatever reason I cannot force dimension strings to play on a certain string "sul E" for instance . When I load the old house style back in (I kept a backup) the "Sul E" command works againg after I re-open the score.

Another funny thing with the new house style is if I select a note in the score that has the "sul E" command it works, but during playback it does not work.

    Thanks,

    Dave

  • Hello Dave!

Dimension Strings and the "sul E" command work fine here with the latest house style. Maybe there's a mistake somewhere in your setup. I would go through all points in the Troubleshooting chapter of the "Optimizing Sibelius Playback" manual.

  • Hi Andi,

    Thanks for updated soundset!

With the VSL House Style, like the older versions, I am able to see different Strings Libraries, e.g. Violin I [Dimension Strings I], in Add/Remove, but I cannot see anyting instrument related to Synchron Strings.

For the manual soundsets, there are Synchron Violins, Synchron Violas, etc.

    Best,

  • Hello mobileavatar!

The "[VSL Synchron Strings I]" instruments are there. Maybe you have selected only a group of instruments to be listed and have to choose from "All Instruments" in the "Add or Remove Instruments" menu.

  • Hi Andi,

Thanks for the tip! Yes, after choosing "All Instruments", [VSL Synchron Strings] does show up.

But it's a bit strange, because all the other VSL strings instrument show up under "Orchestral Instruments", with [VSL Synchron Strings].

Also, will future Synchring Strings libs, e.g. Synchron Strings II, III, use the same [VSL Synchron Strings] instruments, or they will probably be separate like, [Dimension Strings I] and [Dimension Strings II]?

    Thanks again!

  • Hi,

I'm new with Sibelius (7.5). I use Synchron Strings. If I play a note without expression, it plays a fp no vib. I tried other expressions, like pizz., tremolo... it's OK.

    Is there something wrong ?

    I'm on Mac.

    Thanks for your help.

    Best,

    François

  • Mobileavatar, your question about Synchron Strings II can't be answered yet.

François, such a problem can have different reasons. Please check the Troubleshooting chapter of the "Optimizing Sibelius Playback" manual.

    Hi Andi,

Thanks for your reply, but the question was more for VSL team to think about. If there will additional legato or similar patches in future Synchron Strings libs that demand certan "continuity" in terms of phrasing, it would be a good idea if the user can keep using the same instrument, i.e. [VSL Synchron Strings] instead of [VSL Synchron Strings I], [VSL Sychron Strings II], etc.

    re: "Orcherstral Instruments" (Add/Remove instruments)

It would be great if you could consider in the next version, adding [VSL Sychron Strings] to "Orchestral Instruments" since all VSL instruments have been included in the category and it is the default one.

    Thanks again.

  • Hi Andi,

Will you update soon the Sibelius Sound Set for Synchron-ized chamber Strings ?

The changes (sustain vibrato / non vibrato) don't switch.

    Thanks.

    François

  • SY Strings don't show up in the instrument list for me...

  • Hello!

François, the updated "VE Strings" sound set for the SYNCHRON-ized Chamber Strings will be available in a few days.

Bill, please choose from "All Instruments" in the Sibelius "Add or Remove Instruments" menu. Then "[VSL Synchron Strings]" should show up.

    Best regards,
    Andi

  • OK, got it. But shouldn't they show up under Orchestral instruments too?

That's what I requested VSL to include Synchron strings in the category in a future update, as ALL the other VSL instruments are included in the "Orchestral Instruments" category, but VSL never responded...

  • Hello Bill and mobileavatar!

    I'll look into it.
