Hi Daniel
>Excuse my ignorance
Not at all - sharing knowledge is what this forum is all about. I'm no expert myself, but here are a few suggestions:
>When I use the standalone version . . . the output volume is coming out if the little speaker built into my Mac G4, not my mixer.
Open the Vienna Instrument Options -> Configure -> Settings -> Audio Driver and change the setting from 'Built-In Audio' to the name of the soundcard that connects to your mixer, then hit 'Close'.
>When I open Logic, do I have to launch the exs24 sampler first off?
No, Appassionata Strings don't require the EXS24, they are powered by the the Vienna Instrument. To use this with Logic you have to insert the Vienna Instrument plug-in into a Logic 'Instrument' track (not an Audio or MIDI track) and then use that track for writing its sequences. Set up as many tracks as you need different instruments and ensembles, and use the VI's extensive switching facilites to change performance styles (e.g. sus vib -> staccato -> pizzicato -> etc.) within a track.
>how do I pull sounds from vienna library into the sampler and route them to a track.
Once the VI is inserted into a Logic track you can open up its screen and load sounds directly into it.
Good luck!
