  • Again... about the VI interface's oddity...

Ok... here it is... I hope you'll see*** my point of view (***= re-translate-ing in the right way my bad english! :wink[[:)]]

...I'm editing a violins track in a Logic song... hit play... mmmmm.... I want to try another patch in the VI instrument for that line... take up (click [ Show Window ]) the VI interface and select a new patch... hit play... (Uh?!?!? ...the VI interface window has gone! :roll[[:)]] ...mmmm... in the meantime, the song still doesn't sound good... new patch! ...ok... make it (the GUI) visible again... re-click the [ Show Window ]... click... AUCH! Setting the Logic SPL in the right position... Uffa! (that's Italian) ...the GUI's gone again! [:'(] ...click... re-CLICK! ...mmmmm... I don't think this is the "interface nice-right way to work"! [[:|]]

Don't you think so...? ...no one else get this... "trouble"? ...is it just my point of view?

P.S.: [:O]ops: ...maybe it's an old good story... sorry! ...but... don't forget it... pleeeeease! [:D]

  • Mighty Rino is back. [:D]

The programmers have limited choices, I'm guessing. If VI opens as a float window, it would always cover the Logic windows beneath it. Then, to get it out of the way, you'd have to close it each time.

If it doesn't open as a float window, then clicking on a Logic window to start and stop the song covers up the VI. I think the programmers chose this as the lesser of two evils.

The best solution is to save a screenset with an area to open VI's.You can't save an opened VI to a screenset, but you can set aside a portion of the screen to VI's when they're opened.

Yes, I'm constantly hitting ENTER to play when I'm in VI. Then I must grab the mouse and click outside of VI and hit it again. After half a year with VI, I still do this about five times a session. We're not alone. It has been discussed. It's probably an AU/VST rules issue.

With Logic Control, you can start and stop even with VI topped. That probably holds true for any external transport.

Here's my humble request: let us click three times in the channel strip on "Vienna" to open the window. (I'm assuming a double click isn't possible, and you need a single click to choose the channel strip itself.) Click-click-click to get directly into VI. Is that possible from a programming standpoint?

  • ...agree Rino..hope for a normal floating interface " a la " EXS or other plugs.
Editing and choosing articulation during work is a nightmare. Please VSL.......

  • I can only agree, it's the number 1 annoying problem with a plugin that I have close to nothing to complain about. [:)]

    VSL pretty plz...?

...mmmmm... don't you (they) like the way other plugin interface works...? ...as the exs24 (Hi Anton!)? ...is it so complicate to program?

...and is it normal that when the VI is lauching (on MacOS) you can't do anything else with your Finder (or other Applications)...? [*-)]: ...what a overbearing character! [[:D]]

    Cheers!

Edit: Hi Vagn Luv... you were... faster!

  • It's not because they want to do it this way or don't like the way other plug-in windows work. Obviously this is a necessary compromise related to the way the Vienna Instruments player really runs outside Logic.

My guess is that the AU plug-in is actually just a hook for streaming the player's audio into the progam and possibly routing MIDI from the host to it. The plug-in's interface is not the Vienna Instruments window, it's the little thing that says "click here to open the window." Is that an Apple Event? Don't ask me.

It's a nuisance, but it also means you can access a lot more RAM if it's installed, since the Vienna Instruments player doesn't use any of Logic's RAM. Plus you can run stand-alone instances in addition and access even more memory.

    Thanks, Nick.
...your interesting words gave to me some more inputs about how "it" works... [[:D]]

...so... we have an annoying/different interface but... we don't have to forget that we have also more RAM to be use (and this is great!)...

    Logic-al! [[:D]]

    Thanks for chatting...

EDIT: ...about my "strange comparison"... not so important, but... the EWQLSC would be the VI "open window", and the WB would be the VI Instrument interface...
Ok... say that! ..."Great imagination!" [:O]ops:

  • Nick,
    you are perfectly right.

it is _very_ tricky to bring VI window into a host provided window on OSX.
we haven't succeded with good results so far.

sorry, we are working on that

  • I think the problem would be 98% better if you could just get the Vienna windows to stay open when you change screensets and come back, Chris. The rest of it isn't really significant.

But I'm sure you're way ahead of me.

Incidentally, is there a way to trigger Logic Meta events with an environment button to make this happen? I've never thought of a use for Meta events, but I'll have to think this through...

It's entirely possible I'm barking up the wrong tree, of course, since the windows are still outside Logic.

  • What if the VI interface instances populated a sort of "rack" outside Logic? I think what sometimes makes things confusing is the the VI doesn't seem to be an app outside Logic *or* a plugin -- it's sort of between the two, so it's sending "mixed messages", so to speak. This way, the plugin window in Logic could then just focus the rack (i.e, slide up or down) to the correct instance. It would be a bit like working with Reason in ReWire mode, but much more seamless as far as integration and setup goes.

  • Ciao Rino,
I don't know Logic at all as I use only PCs and I am happy since I use the pivot option (90°) on my new 19" monitor. It is like having two 15" little monitors in one. I always work-with and look-at 2 programs in the same moment. And it takes the phisical space of 1 smaller monitor!
I think that as soon as 23" monitors will have a nice price, we will work even better!
    Salutami Roma,
    Ciao

    Right! Nick... that's also true!

    Hi Sergino! [[;)]]
I'm not so sure... to have understood "your" pivot option on PC (could be a sort of the screenset option we got into Logic...?) [:O]ops:

  • Ciao Rino, (I try to translate in Italian my previous post)
    Ciao
