  • Nuendo/Cubase

Have to admit I am little intrigued with Nuendo, but know nothing about it. Is it only audio, does it have sequencing too? If so, is VI working with it?

Would be interested to know how it stacks up on the Mac vs Logic and DP.

    Thanks if anyone knows..

  • Tom--

I've had my eye on N3 myself. DG can tell you more about it, although I don't think he has the latest version. He does like it, though.

Checking out the docs, it does have quiet a few appealing features, especially in the world of post production, which is where my rig is weakest. I'm more setup with DP and Logic for pre-prod.

However, you should check out the PDFs and videos in the meantime. Intriguing app....

I'd also be keen to hear more detailed reports on how VI-friendly it is.

  • I am a long time user of cubase and am a hugh fan. There are many elegant ways of accessing features in the program. However, Logic has its great points as well. Nuendo has all of the sequencing features found in Cubase and an expanded set of audio features. Two really great progarms.

  • Hello Tom

I'm a long-time Nuendo/Cubase user, and have been with VSL from First through Pro and now Synphonic Cube. However, I am on the PC platform for all of these. In that Nuendo/Cubase & VSL are cross-platform, I can tell you that I have been happy with Nuendo as my main DAW.

Yes, it has audio and midi sequencing to a high specification. Currently, I run Nuendo on 1 PC, and use two slaves running either V-Stack [from steinberg] or Cubase [which I also have] as VST wrappers for VSL on the slaves.

You should check out the Nuendo forums at http://forum.nuendo.com, and you'll get a feel for where its at, and what are some of the current issues with the software.

One huge difference between Steinberg and VSL, I would have to say, is in the online support area. Frankly, it is scant from Steinberg, in comparison to a very fast and helpful service here at VSL. [In dealing with a few online support facilities over the years, VSL are the exception rather than the rule, so Steinberg are no worse than average, I suppose, in that regard]

Although not as popular worldwide as PT, Nuendo/Cubase would run second in the popularity stakes, I would think.

As to whether you would need Nuendo moreso than Cubase, if what you're at is sequencing midi and audio, Cubase would do the job. If video also is a requirement, I would lean towards Nuendo.

If you have any other specific questions, I'd be glad to answer if I can

    All the best

Tom, Cubase, Logic and DP are much of a much. There are a few differences but feature wise there is not a lot of difference. Nuendo is aimed more at the post production market, but has all the features of Cubase plus a large number of specific features that make it a suitable alternative to Pro Tools. So if you are thinking of using it as your principal studio software it is in a different league to Logic and DP (and Cubase).

When I was setting up my studio I was originally going to use Cubase for sequencing and Pro Tools for the audio side of things. However, after being pointed in the direction of Nuendo I quickly realised that this was an all-in-one package as far as sequencing and audio was concerned.

If you are interested I would check out a demo at a store if you can. Unfortunately there is no downloadable demo. If you have any specific questions feel free to shoot me a PM or check out the Nuendo forum. I have never had to contact support, so I can't comment on that although I do know that there is telephone support in the US and have not heard complaints about it. However, the jewel in the crown is the forum. It is populated almost entirely by professionals, who not only have a wide range of knowledge about the program but also are experts on hardware issues, should you need this.

However, be aware that if you intend to run it on Mac, it will run slower, and Mac users are in a minority, so any specific help on the forum might be slower to appear.
