  • Very nice, gents. Thanks so much for doing this piece. It was the piece I used when first getting VI Strings. The first thing I noticed was the beautiful legato-- how the connective material between notes accomplished what I struggled to make work properly. In fact, I'm still working on it... Had a little trouble downloading the new files, but am eager to get these installed and incorporated into my setup.

    I also appreciated the application of reverb and ambience, which didn't seem to obscure the subtle details.

    Kudos MUST go to the interpretation-- the expressive timing and turns of phrases are extremely well done. BRAVO, gents. BRAVO!!

    One question-- the contrabass at times *sounds* as if a pizz was used- I'm not saying that it was the case; but there seems to be a very distinctive "point" on some contrabass attacks. Can you comment on these?

    Wow - great mix Dietz and programming Michael. Dietz - relative to my other thread on EQ - did you on this - roll off a narrow band at 2400 and 4500 hz. Sounds very smooth.


    Nice sound.


    (Michael - could you use more progressive vibato patches?? Sound good as it is but maybe an option [*-)]: )

  • Very nice work, Michael and Dietz! I enjoyed the flexible phrasing of melodic line and the airiness of the hall. I especially liked the quality of the strings at the softer dynamics. The new appassionata violins sound quite sweet here, but they now throw a bright spotlight on the cellos and violas. I'm afraid you may have opened Pandora's box. We will definitely need appassionata cellos and violas-- perhaps as a Christmas present. [:D]

    Very well said! The current cellos are now the weakest link of the VSL strings...

    Thanks for the friendly reactions! All respect to Michi - I just threw all the tracks he had played meticulously into my virtual hall [:)]

    Regarding EQ: The sound you hear is more or less what you get, hardly any hard cuts during mixing. I added lots of airy hi-end, though - something the Apassionatas take greatefully, if there's the need for it.

  • Great work guys!! I'm impressed at the sensitivity and "live" tempo nuances.

    Would you consider also offering the MIDI file for us to learn from? (As Jay Bacal always does - I've learned so much from analysing his work)

  • Wow those might be the nicest string samples I've ever heard. So much weight on just a single held note. Big and fat too. Just right I think.
