I cant hear anything from the site! All the demos that are lsted do nothing when I click on them. I dont believe its being caused by my system which plays all other audio just fine. Any Suggestions?

i'd assume one of 2reasons for the issue:
- you are running XP SP2 and do not allow popups (a yellow information bar on the top should appear asking to *allow popups from this site*) or you have installed any other popup blocker
- you are using an updated internet explorer which does not allow to run activeX controls due to a patent issue (you need some associated player for the mp3s like quicktime, mediaplayer ect) and you have to confirm to *activate this element* or you don't allow to run activeX controls at all

as an example here is a link to an mp3 - please rightclick (win) or ctrl+click(mac) and select *save as* to download the file and play the downloaded file in your preferred audio application. let me know if it plays ...

Those web pages uses non-standard HTML tags
nliberg, could you please elaborate which tag(s) you are referring to? in case you think of the <embed> i have to mention it is the only reliable method for netscape 4.x to play media files, although it never became an HTML standard tag. all browsers claim to interprete it - please let me know if there are some details we've overlooked ... it will be no problem to change something to archive better compatibility

Hi Christian,
thanks for the interest. Yes it was the <embed> tag I was refering to. The standard solution is to wrap the non-standard <embed> tag inside a standard <object> tag. Please see this page. In windows Firefox won't show the media player unless you use the <object> tag. If you install quicktime it seems to work as it is though.

No unfortunately it still doesn't work (at least not without a quicktime plugin).
Sorry, but I don't know if my advice was completely correct (although it probably didn't hurt). It seems that Firefox recognizes the <embed> tag but it wants to have the type of the media specified as type="application/x-mplayer2" where you currently use type=audio/mpeg. I tried downloaded a local copy of a demo page and changed this myself and then it worked.

unfortunately this will be no solution - otherwise we'd force mac users to use media player, nothing they would be very fond of i'd assume ...

try pressing the 'Download MP3' link (or install a quicktime plugin) and I think you will be able to hear the demos.

bottha, the problem might be you have some kind of popup-blocker (set this in your browser or via some extra application or toolbar) - please allow popups for vsl.co.at (possibly also/instead www.vsl.co.at)
clicking on the *OPEN* button should give you a new window with further information, a player and links

Unfortunately for me, I still am unable to hear the demos. I don't have popup blocking on. Can you tell me how I can be sure that Javascript is enabled? In IE, Tools-->Internet Options Advanced Tab, Use Java is checked. Does that mean that Javascript is also enabled?
Luckily for me I have access to a computer where I can hear the demos. Just not at home. Oddly, the two machines were both set up by me and are very similar.
I figured that you guys would want to know about this.

bottha, java is not javascript (the first is an extension to process some embedded programs called applets, the second is a scriptlanguage interpreted by the browser)
- does the popup even open or not?
- if yes, the problem is in the settings how to play sounds in websites
- if no, you should check the tab data protection (hopefully that's the wording, because i just don't have an english system here)
there is a checkbox on this tab "block popups" and a button for advanced settings. whereas is it basically a good idea to have popups blocked, you should have checked "show information bar when a popup is blocked" and look if *.vsl.co.at is listed as site for wich popups are allowed
