Hello, I would appreciate any tips on how to evaluate the current Opus Bundle offer (35% off). I'm planning on using the samples as a hobbyist. I was planning on going for the Opus Bundle and then maybe get Solo Strings or Chamber Strings later on. But now the new VIs seem great, and that makes me very uncertain. The problem is that there isn't any equivalent to Opus 1+2 among the Vienna Instruments (yet!?). If I buy Opus Bundle now I fear that in, say half a year, I may find myself in a situation where there's a VI corresponding to Opus 1+2, but no viable upgrade path for me. (I guess it would be like this since it's not possible for non-pro users to get a discount when upgrading from Horizon products to VI at this time. Correct me if I'm wrong.)
So, what do you think I should do? Wait and see if there'll be a VI Opus (but loose the 35% offer), or go for it now? Would buying Opus now be a waste of money if I would like to go the VI way in the future?
I would also like to hear with someone from VSL if there are any plans on a VI Opus. In that case, what would the upgrade options look like?
Finally I would just like to say that the VSL Forum is probably the nicest forum I've seen. I hope it stays that way.
Thanks!
In some ways you are right about the lack of discount, but in some ways wrong, so I'll deal with this first.
It is true that all users pay the same price for VI Standard, but existing users get the Extended content at a much lower price. Until I have my hands on all the packages I can't be sure, but it seems like there will be "new" content in the Standard as well as the Extended, but the Standard does not include all the stuff that you already have..! Clear so far [*-)]
I can't imagine that there won't be an Opus VI at some point and if you decide to buy that, then under the current system you would pay the same as a new user. However you will have had the use of Opus for all the time when VI wasn't available and you will get a discount on the extended content. Of course all this is speculation as we don't know where or not Opus will be re-programmed for VI, but I would imagine that it would be a very good source of income for VSL.
In your situation I would be tempted to get the Opus Bundle and then buy VI piecemeal. Opus is very good value for money, especially with the current deal. The principal value of VI to me is the potential increased speed of workflow. This may not matter to you, so I think that you have nothing to lose by getting Opus, after all a week ago we wouldn't even be having this conversation.
