  • Thanks a lot for the quick reply! Do you think the problem with the violin lies in a poor choice by me? Is there something I could have done to avoid it?

    agains, thanks much

But my original claim was that it is not possible to choose e.g when the string instrument plays cis or dis. It should be freely selectable for all notes. That is not possible at the moment for any system, not even for VSL. That is the main reason that software instruments can't emulate string quartet playing. Articulation and style matters are, of course, also important but that was not my point this time.

Noticed my mistake. Should have been "cis od des" ...

  • please define "cis od dis." I don't know that term!

  • cis od des!

Aha, Db the favorit key for tenor sax...

  • Interpreting the discussion I must decide, that Software Instruments seem not to be on the level needed for presenting string quartets properly. Pity ...

  • Well of course.

The day that string samples or virtual instruments surpass the finest string quartets in the world will be a sad day indeed.

    Get real.

    Clark

  • Yes indeed. But at the moment software instruments can't properly even mock up string quartert because of the fatal flaw.

The real string quartets do a lot of work for dedicing when to e.g. C sharp or D flat etc.

You can't do freely the selection with the software instruments I know. There are microtunings etc. but they work only globally. In ideal case it should be possible to use sequencer's e.g. matrix representation for "tuning" string quartet sounds.

  • The day a calculator can play a string quartor, is the day I exchange my wife with a inflatable women!

Well, it's very early in the morning, I excuse myself in advance for that one...

  • Angelo,
I'd have to get the dictionary out and watch this a few times to understand what your friend is saying, but i get the drift, so to speak.

The view behind him is spectacular... [:)]

No dictionary necessary! While you look into vast abysses of space and time... the abyss looks into you, or if you call into the forest, you will incur roaming charges not covered by your plan. I guess what Carlo wanted to express was: "The way you call into the forest, the way it will shout back at you" or "How you call into the forest, the echo will return", but since he is above the timber line (tree limit), he yells into the kettle and the kettle is replying.

Carlo: The way I call into the kettle, the way it has to shout back at you
    Kettle: No never
Carlo: I said, as I call into the kettle, it has to shout back at you!
Kettle. I won't do that, forget it!

etc. approx. the same lines repeating in variations till the end of the video.
