  • Custom presets ranges?

    Hi

when creating custom presets, if I want to copy my new preset structure to another section, like from Violins 1 to Violins 2, I follow the instructions from here

    https://www.vsl.info/en/manuals/synchron-player/custom-preset-creation

but I noticed that we strip out the range information of all cells, the result is an extended range on some cells that were originally restricted.

So how do we actually keep the correct frame range?

    thanks

  • Hi Ravez!

The problem you have described comes up, when you remove the ranges from disabled slots. This is a known problem. If you enable the slots before removing the ranges, it should work as expected.

    Best regards,
    Andi

  • Hi Andi, I'm not sure I understand.

When I remove the ranges (as per instructions on the above link), I do it in a text editor.

But you are talking about enabling the slots before removing the ranges, would that be in the Synchron Player?

I don't think we have a way of defining the ranges in the player, right?

  • Hi Ravez!

I recommend enabling the slots in Synchron Player first, then copying them to your text editor.

Ranges can be defined in Synchron Player, but only for each slot separately.

  • I see, so I understood correctly, but as I expected that doesn't work either, cause the issue is we are stripping out the frame range information from the preset in the text editor, so once I paste the text back to Synchron player I will see the extended frame range on all cells.

As an example try in Elite strings to copy violins 1 structure to the double bass using the steps on the link, including enabling all slots before copying them to the text editor, then check the new double bass range compared to the original double bass, it will have extended frame range.

If we delete the ranges, how is it gonna be able to get the correct ones in the double bass in this example?

  • Hi Ravez!

This should not happen with the current Synchron Player version. Please make sure that you have the latest version installed. You can update Synchron Player with Vienna Assistant.

  • Hi Andi

I was already using the latest player.

But I finally found a way to make it work.

When you paste the preset you need to paste it once, then enable all slots, then paste it again and it will update the dimensions structure but keeping the correct ranges.

Can you please confirm this is what happens for you as well?

And in that case can you update the instructions on that link to avoid people having wrong ranges on their customs presets?

    Thanks

  • Hi Ravez!

I have tried to reproduce what you describe. It's not necessary to paste the text twice, but it's true that you have to paste it to an enabled (or empty) dimension tree.

    Best,
    Andi

  • That's probably because you are not using custom presets but the original ones?

Also I realized I can just build the structure on a tutti patch, the create all sections out of the tutti by renaming the sections in the text editor and delete the missing slots in the player.

Makes it easier so you only really make a new preset once for the tutti and not also for the violins 1 to be copied to the other sections as I used to do.

To add to what I wrote above, It is actually not necessary to to all those edits in the text editor.

If you build your new preset structure on the tutti once, you can basically get all the individual section by searching and replacing those sections. All the ones replaced will error out in the player which makes it easy to delete in one click, and you are left with the desired section.

Then rinse and repeat for each section.

This way all you need to do is:

1- in Synchron open a factory tutti preset (let's say Elite Strings tutti patch)

2- customize the preset to get the desired cells/dimensions structure.

3- deselect any cells and right click, copy root slot

4- paste in a text editor

5- delete ranges with search and replace as outlined in the custom presets page from VSL

6- search and replace vi1 with vi2, then va, vc and db.

7- open Violins 1 factory preset in Synchron

    8- right click, reset instrument

9- right click, paste root slot

10-right click, enable all slots (here is where I can the range is wrong, showing wide range)

11- right click, paste root slot again (range will be updated showing the correct range)

12- right click, delete all slots containing missing patches (only Violins 1 will be left)

13- save out your new custom Violins 1 patch

then move to the other sections by going back to the text editor, press undo until you reach the point where you just deleted the ranges and then start again by searching and replacing this time with vi2 instead.

And so on until all sections are done.

I was also thinking that maybe having `force disable all slots` affects the range issue where I need to paste twice, but I prefer to keep them disabled by default to save ram and speed.

    PS

can someone update the title of the thread? I wrote frame ranges instead of ranges (I work on images frame ranges at my job and it slipped in)
