  • Download extremely slow

I have loved VEPro for a long time but the first thing I think of when I think of VSL is the impossible download speeds. I have a regular download speed measured at over 400Mbps but it is taking longer than an hour to download Vienna Assistant (102MB).

I have previously avoided updating your software for as long as possible because of the download speeds and I would feel foolish to ever purchase anything else from your company until this is resolved.

Your site has been this way for a long time and I hope you fix it soon. If another company works out how to compete with VEPro before your products are reasonably accessible, it would be a nuisance to have to learn the new software (although doing so may be faster than accessing the software I have already paid for from your site).

  • Hello CDimidius,

    Thanks for reporting.

This shouldn't be the case, as we have servers in different places around the globe, so let's find out what's in the way:

Where are you downloading, which location?
Are you downloading from behind a firewall (university, company...)? We are using torrent-based downloads that might not be what your administrator likes.

    Any additional information will help!

    Paul

  • Hi Paul

    Thanks for your response.

I am downloading on a mac mini (2018, 3.2GHz 6-Core i7 with 64GB) that is dedicated for VEPro Server (and the plugins I run with it). I am in Australia but usually have no problem downloading large files from sites around the world (Spitfire, IK Multimedia, Native Instruments, EastWest, etc).

I last updated to v7.1.1406 when it came out and multiple attempts to download a more recent update via the pop-up notice that appears at start-up have been unsuccessful (very slow and ultimately resulting in a notice saying, 'Could not retrieve update information' and 'Connection closed').

Vienna Assistant has now eventually downloaded and installed. I am attempting to download a VEPro 7 update which is up to about 55MB / 288.91MB with about 02:37:00 estimated as remaining.

    Regards

    Stewart

  • Hi Stewart,

My colleagues are too shy to post, but we're looking into this.

Can you please create a support file in your Vienna Assistant and send it to us? support@vsl.co.at, with a quick link to this thread.

    Thanks,
    Paul

  • Hi Paul

I sent the email, support file and link to this thread 7 hours ago.  I am aware of the timezone differences and look forward to your response in due course.

In the meantime, I have been continually attempting to download the VEPro 7 update through Vienna Assistant. It is downloading at about 21kB/s and ultimately drops out with a message 'Network Error', sometimes after hours of downloading. Clicking the retry button starts the download from the beginning again and again.

    Regards

    Stewart

  • Hi Paul

To provide an update, I've just tested downloading a file of comparable size from another company based in Austria and it was downloaded and installed in about 40 seconds.

    Regards

    Stewart

  • Well that's now more than 13 hours since I sent through the requested support file and more than 13 hours of trying to download a file of only 288.91MB - still without success.

I have only persisted because at times the download has made it (after hours) to showing only about 10 minutes remaining - right before it drops out again. If I can just get this ####### file, I guarantee I will never bother this company about any other product ever again.

  • HI CDimidius,

Just sent it to your registered email address with wetransfer, both Win and Mac versions.

Hope that works! There will be more updates, and we're looking into better options.

    Enjoy your weekend!

  • Hi, I'm new to vienna and currently face the same problem -- Download vienna assistant extremely slow and then try to download synchron piano player at average 25kB/s (And always got network error). I'm at Hong Kong and has no problem on downloading other super large files like Steam games. I wonder how long would I take to download piano libraries.

  • Hi katzzz,

I just sent you download links with wetransfer to your registered email address, that will work.

Our library files are torrent files, those will be much faster.

  • Be sure to download to a SSD; I've found it makes a big difference.

  • I have the same problem. Slight precision in my case: library downloads are acceptable at +/- 2mb/s. Just the software downloads are unbearably slow. Average 45kb/s.

I did have one day when it went fine, at +/- 1.5Mb/s. I suspect the torrent protocol may not be exactly suitable for software distribution...

It's a shame really, as i actually like the Vienna assistant software.

  • Hi, I'm from Japan and also I have the same problem.

In my case, I tried to DL Vienna Ensemble 7 (ver 7.3.3388) any number of times via Vienna Assistant (of course  the newest version) and always got network error (roughly it always stops at about 80% to 90%) in the end.

Can you send me a link to download it for sure?

And I have the other question; Is it possible to download from the continuation of the disconnect, or if not currently possible, could you update the application so that it can be done in the future?

I think many applications from other companies (not just music content) seem to be able to do this.

If this could be done, I think it would further improve the usability of the application.

I also love and use VSL's content, so it would be great if you would consider this.

    Regards

  • Hi there,

I'm having terrible problems reverting to MIR Pro 3D 3325 MAC I can only get 17KB/s from VSL - it's goiung to take 5 hours to download 280mb - I am really regrtting upgrading.

I have to revert because MIRacle presets are messed up running 3636 - recall presets with 50% modulation - turning the mix into a psychadelic modulated nightmare.

    Bummer.

    Christian

  • Hi Christian,

Sorry to hear about these troubles.

Just sent you a link via PM that provides you with an alternative link to the Mac version of 3325.

  • I'll add to the Southern Hemisphere problem - I'm in Australia and have been downloading Synchron Prime, Synchron Brass and Synchron Woodwinds for about 28 hours.

The max speed has been 1.1 Mbps. Not really nice, with EastWest [the only other sizeable downloads I make] I usually get up to 8Mbps.

I do hope that VSL can improve their download speeds for us far away users 😊

    Just a beginner
  • Hi rAC,

We're discussing a few solutions here, hope we can get those in place soon.

Thanks for your patience, I know it's hard to wait for those nice sounds.
