  • I'm also in "Download only" mode and download and install locations are on different hard drives. Maybe we have to check the other modes.

  • I've had a couple of cases of VA being stuck at the start of Install mode after download. (These were during installation of Syz Dim Strings III and Syz Dim Strings Bonus libraries; I haven't yet stopped to look further into it.)

The way I got through this was to click the "X" (Cancel) icon in VA to the right of the progress status line of a 'stuck' library, then click "Install" again in VA for that cancelled installation. VA then quickly ran through the already downloaded library without any downloading happening (presumably re-verifying the already downloaded files), but towards the end of this progress, downloading automatically started up and continued until the progress indicator showed 100% done. Then Install automatically began and ran through to completion without a hitch. Download and Install were on different drives, both SSDs and having plenty of empty space.

I'm guessing that some sort of download error may have been encountered during the first pass; then presumably, VA's exception-handling code correctly prevented Install from running (although Install mode was shown as entered), but alas, didn't display any error notification in VA, nor did it manage downloading in order to attempt a fix (until the second pass, manually started after Cancel). But all this is pure guesswork on my part - hope I'm not doing VA code any grave injustice.

  • I seem to have mis-understood how "Download-only" mode works as it seems to do just exactly that. My understanding was, that it doesn't keep the original installer files after installation.

I switched to "Keep downloaded files"-mode and installation worked flawlessly.

Maybe we need a "Download, install, delete download files"-mode additionally?

  • Today no download will get any faster than 200-some BYTES ps. mostly showing 150-151.

absolutely not my wifi connection, other things coming down FAST. No, I'm not trying to do more than one thing at a time.

  • Hi civilization 3,

Are you sure you're not working from behind a firewall or AV program that blocks the torrent downloads?

Is the software also downloaded that slowly (those are NOT torrent downloads)?

    Best,
    Paul

  • Win10 here with 100 gigabyte download speeds.  Just trying to move to a Synchron Strings 1 to new SSD drive. I started at 2:00PM, and it is now 8:00PM. I averaged only 5Mb average during the "download." And that low speed problem is not on my end. Why do I have to download it all over again anyway? It already exists of the other drive. Why not just have a "copy source" to "paste destination" option? It would be so simple that way. If I select "move",  the assistant wants a destination download file. Why? I don't want to download it all over again it it takes 6 hours! Why can't I just copy the library from the old disk to the new one? Now that the download is complete, here I am now at 8:00 pm watching a meaningless graphic bounce back and forth that says 0% and "install pending" with no progress whatsoever for over a half hour. While the samples in the library are great, there is some serious programming work that needs to be done regarding moving libraries from one disc to another and installation speeds. Thank you for listening.

  • Hi dbgrass,

The "Move" option inside the Vienna Assistant does just that. You select a library, click "Move", then select the destination folder, and the Vienna Assistant moves the sample content from the old to the new destination. The option "Copy" does the same, but of course, you end up with the content in both the old and new destinations.

If you have further issues, please contact us via support@vsl.co.at and add screenshots of what's happening. If an exFAT drive is involved, download/installation/moving/copying can be very slow.

  • Hi guys

This has been happening to me all year...

[ I'm running a MacBook Pro i9 with macIS Ventura (latest version). ]

The only fix is to find the Installer in your Downloads Folder - once the download is complete.

Drag it out onto the Desktop.

Try to Force Quit the Vienna Assistant app.

    Restart (is always safest)...
[ Run Disk Utility's First Aid from Recovery Mode if you're worried.]

... Then manually install the VSL application from the VSL Installer on the Desktop.

    ------

It's ludicrously time-consuming, but - to be honest - as there's still no fix for this scenario, it would be much easier to have access to the Software Downloads on the website... or perhaps a link to them from Vienna Assistant once that app informs us that there are updates available.

What do you think Paul Kopf?

    Cheers,

       David

Hey guys, just bought Elite Strings, uninstalled the "old" Synchron Player as suggested, installed the iLok Version, no problems so far.

I then downloaded Elite Strings in Vienna Assistant, but after the finished download nothing happens. The download button still says "download" and didn't change to "install" as it should happen afaik.

    Any tips?

Specs: MacPro 2019, Mac OS Catalina 10.15.7 (latest security update), latest VePro 7 (eLicenser)

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi David,

Could you please check your macOS settings > Privacy & Security?

Either under "Full Disk Access" or "Files & Folders": Is the entry for the macOS "Installer" app showing up in one of the two groups? Or is it missing on your machine, entirely?

We had some macOS Ventura reports of that kind and there are also discussions & reports in the Apple Forum (not VSL-related) about similar installation issues. macOS Sonoma does not seem to cause any of those troubles. That might be worth considering, too.

  • Hi Andreas

Unfortunately I don't have the Installer available in my Full Disk Access ...

But I do have these VSL products selected.

    Cheers,
    David

  • There have been reports on the Apple forum about this being a general macOS issue (missing permissions for the macOS installer app) (mostly Ventura). It would seem that upgrading to macOS Sonoma helped. Best, Andreas
