  • Using VI w/o MIR

    Hi,

I am new to VSL and in the process of evaluating it against Spitfire, EW & Orchestral Tools.

Given that I have not decided to commit to VSL (i.e. making a substantial $ investment), I bought a couple of Synchron instruments and one VI along with VI Pro. I am using the VE Pro demo version.

The 30 day MIR demo version is not sufficient for me.

So my question is ... Is it possible to conduct a fair experiment of VI dry samples w/o MIR?

    Thank you,

    Alex

    PS Using LPX & Dorico.

    Hi Alex,

    Just checked your registered products.

May I ask why the demo license of MIR Pro is not sufficient for you? It is fully functional...

Regarding the experiment, you could check out the MIR Videos for a first impression. We are also turning off the reverb here...

But let me ask you this: What is it you are looking for, in terms of sound and reverberation possibilities?

    Best,
    Paul

  • Hi Paul, As mentioned below, I’d need more than 30 days, as the learning curve is very steep. I did look at many of the videos. They are wonderful but the product. Because the product is complex it takes me forever to try to reproduce what I see. Only to discover that, at least for my level of understanding, it is chicken and egg situation. To wit, I cannot try things in the tutorial videos until I buy the various components. I trust you see my predicament. I am even considering taking the 7 months online class to gain an understanding. That is, before buying any more samples altogether. I am also torn between trading the relative ease of use of the Synchron libraries versus the building potential of one’s sound, given by dry samples. Which is where my question began. I enjoy vocal music and am looking for church IRs. My immediate goal is to emulate music I like, in order to learn how to build a palette (and have a reference for in recorded performances) and then move to pieces of my own. One of my ideal spaces would be, for example, Hagia Sophia. Thank you for taking the time, Alex

  • Hi Alex,

I seriously believe that 30 days are long enough to test a product.

Of course it depends on your technical and musical level, how much you will get out of it, but that's out of our sphere of influence.

So I'm not sure what you expect from us...

    Best,
    Paul

  • Hi Paul,

I wanted a simple yes or no to my question.

I guess the answer is no, given my level of expertise and duration of the trial. And that is a fine answer.

I do not have any expections whatsoever from VSL to resolve my quandry.

    Many thanks, again,

    Alex

    Hi Alex,

if you aim for that kind of sound, the MIR Venue "Steinhofkirche" (part of RoomPack 3) is what you're looking for, most likely:

  • Hi Deitz,

    Thank you!

I am in the process of trying MIR out. Pack installation is not smooth (details in the appropriate sub-forum).

    BR,

    Alex

  • I have been working on a "look" at a very easy way of using VI/VE/MIR which actually are very straightforward to use.

It definitely does not take 7 months - I couldn't do that myself!  Maybe a half hour?  (I'm lazy...)

  • Great! Thank you! Can you share? Alex

  • Yes, I will try to get it done soon.  Thanks for your interest.

  • Hi Dietz,

I am playing with the Soprano Choir with the Pernegg Monastery MIRx. Very nice!

I plan on having more Synchron instruments and would like to confirm that a Synchron MIRx is forthcoming.

    Thank you,

    Alex

  • Hi Alex,

please don't take this as an official announcement, but "from behind the scenes" I can confirm that MIRx Synchron Stage is in the works (again). :-)

    Thanks for your patience!

  • Hello Dietz,

Fantastic (unofficial) news! Thanks! Does it mean also that (unofficially) we can hope for a MIRx Mode for the Synchron room pack (fingers crossed)?

  • Yes, of course! MIRx Mode in MIR Pro will be updated with the new settings, too. ... after all, that's what _I_ use. ;-D
