    You're absolutely right Anand it would be more fair, to you and me, but not to VSL. You see, VSL has to pay Elicenser for those licenses (keys to the car so to speak).  When you loose your key, new licenses will have to be reissued and VSL has to pay for those so they're merely passing those costs on to the user who lost his key.

    I think it was you who said this was an arcane system and you're right about that.  Also, this having to buy a new key every two years is getting old especially when you can't do a mass transfer of licenses from the old key to the new.  You have to transfer them one at a time and that is very irritating.  Hopefully, there is another system in the works that will be satisfactory to all.

    I understand VSL is not out to make us suffer and that there is a valid reason why things are the way they are.

    But I am sure they will work out a good solution soon...the company is remarkably efficient and high quality in every other aspect.

    Aren't keys already protected againt breakage for 2 years? Or is that just against failure?

    Bill, without the Vienna Protection Plan, ViennaKeys have a 2-year limited warranty against failure, as long as there's no physical damage to the key. This will stay the same, but with the Protection Plan you're also protected against loss, theft and any kind of malfunction.

    Does the Protection Plan cover an eLicenser key older than 2 years?
    And can you move the protection between two keys just like any license?

    Yes, and yes. :)
    Kindly note though that only the key that holds the Vienna Protection Plan license is protected. If you have several keys, simply get as many Protecion Plans as you need.

    Absolutely, we'll send you an email in time, before a Protection Plan expries. In addition, you can check expiration dates, if you have Protection Plans registered, right here at MyVSL/MyProtectionPlans. 😊

    Personally, I'm really, really happy that we can now offer an option which I believe is a good and decent solution. :)

    To answer your question Cyril, we requested this feature with Steinberg too, I don't know the current status on this. The good news is that you can also use your existing ViennaKeys that are older than two years with the Vienna Protection Plan! So there's actually no need to do a mass transfer of licenses to a new ViennaKey.

    Thanks so much Stefan! I am very happy that you did not switch to a completely cloud-based solution and allow us to continue working anywhere. I carry my key with me a lot and so a BIG worry is gone 😊 ...

    What I don't understand: 5. clearly states that VSL can and will deactivate a lost/stolen/broken dongle. Why don't you just do that when necessary, instead of making us buy an insurance biannually? If Steinberg charges VSL for deactivation of licenses, why not just pass these fees on to the customer that needs the service when it is actually needed?

    In my opinion customers should not have to buy an insurance against the deficiencies of a copyright protection system that VSL needs, not us. VSL should.

    IMO it is not an optimal solution, but at least a decent one. And it is cheaper then any insurance 👍

    Your timing is also perfect: I have a recording session on location on saturday. One thing less to worry that day 😃

    What I like on ILok Zero Downtime more is that all licenses of every firm are protected. With this solution all my Xils-lab Licenses are still not protected. But that is no VSL issue. STEINBERG are the idiots who have no idea what a Full Customer Support should look like. The fact that VSL protects elicensers which are older than 2 years shows that they understood while Steinberg doesn’t understand.

    Zero Downtime for iLok is 30 USD - VSL Protection is more than twice the price!! The thing is: if You spread Your libraries over more than one computer (that is intended by using VEPro!) You pay 210 Euro!! for a service that protects the product for the company.

    I am really angry about that because - as has been stated before by Dominique - by having the possibility to deactivate licences on a stolen key there is no need at all for a protection plan! I do not know if it is legal to ask customers to pay for a sevice that is not necessary to protect the licences - think about it, this is a serious question...
