  • Instruments Pro2 Global Attack

    Hi guys..

I use the Dimension Series 1.

I made a Midi Track with evnts on evere eightes over 2 Bars.

I let play in Cubase in a Cycle.

I Listen to it with Click.

It sounds to late for me. even but too late.

I move the events about 35ms earlier in the Timeline.

    Now it sounds "in Time".

Ok, i know every Instrument has his Attack.

But a Player would it play, that it sounds in Time..of Course.

Whe have a Attack thats Default is zero. There is another Slider called Start. Its Default is 15ms.

But its not enought, cause it needs, how i sayd about 35ms to be "in Time".

    -Why they are too late?

    -How would be the Solution?

-Do smoebody have the same Experience?

    -Or do i oversee something?

It would be nice to heare some Inputs..

    Thx.

    Ron

  • Hi Ron,

For us, it's all about detail, and that's why we leave the initial attacks of our sounds  from the very beginning and don't cut right to the tone. You are right, this may result in a slight delay (also depending on the articulation => which one are you using?).

One option is to create a "minus-delay" for the whole track, so that it fits the timing of the rest of your arrangement.

  • Hi Paul..

how is going. Long Time ago;)

-<Yes, thats good to have the whole Recording.

-<I recognised this on the short-Notes of the DS. But in general, i will move the whole Midi-Track about 30-40ms in Cubase, if needed.

    One thing:

I tried to hear a affect on the Legatos and Portamentos (Start-Offset Mode: Leg; Offset: 50; Attack: 80).

I move the "Start"-Slider, but i cant hear a difference, even when i listen to only one Player with disabled Repetitions (Portamento), i cant hear a difference. What i oversee?

    Question:

->When i put the "Start"-Scaler to zero, the fade (5ms default) would be still active?

->Start-Offest Mode, means also Portamento, Right? (also on Legatos i dont heare a difference)

    One more Question:

In your great Tutorial-Video "Polyphonic..?" you show the possibilitys of "Interval-Mode", with the Footpedal.

When i press the Footpedal (cc64/146) it acts like a Sustainpedal.

->Which Ctrl. Map Entry i have to use, and/or which CC you use for this on/off Control?

    Last Question:

->Was there a Change on the "VEP5/6-" and/or "Cubase-Update" in context of the Handling "VEP Audio-Input Plugin in Cubase/Routing" ?

Sorry, the Count of Questions..) i tried the best to hold it short and clear.

    Thx.

  • Hello Ron,

Glad to see that those videos still get some attention!

    Part ONE: "One thing":

My question: Which "Attack" value is at 80?

    Q1: "What I oversee"?

A1: The "Start Offset" cuts the first part of the note. If "Legato" is the Start Offset Mode, you will only hear an effect in the transition between notes (NOT on the first note).

Q2: ->When i put the "Start"-Scaler to zero, the fade (5ms default) would be still active?

A2: I don't think so, it only affects the fade-in time for the start offset, to avoid clicks.

Q3: ->Start-Offest Mode, means also Portamento, Right? (also on Legatos i dont heare a difference)

A3: The LEGATO Start Offest Mode affects all Performance Legatos, also portamentos.

    Part 2 "One more question":

Simply press the sustain pedal (yes, it will have the expected sustain effect), and while you keep it pressed, play another note - it will be a new starting note.

    Part 3 "Last question":

Cubase has changed it's threading-model and added their ASIO Guard system, which is best switched off in combination with VE PRO 5 and VE PRO 6.

    Best,
    Paul

  • Ey Paul..

Thx for your the quick answer.:)

"One thing": 80 is on the Offset-Attack in the Advanced view. Not on the Main-Attack Fader;)

The Start Problem is solved by listening to only one Player. I think i can it hear now. On big Transitions its less obviosly..

Q3:Do you remember the discussion with bernd about the Routing VEPs-Audio-Input Plugin and Latency-Compensation?He would remember what i meen. I would be interested about whats changed in Cubase 9 with this Problem.

    The Pedal-Trick i will try again.thx.

    lot of thx.

    LG

    Ron

  • Hi Ron,

    You're welcome!

I remember the latency-compensation problem now. Unfortunately nothing has changed in this regard.

    Best,
    Paul
