Hi there,  First post i believe - but using Vienna products for a couple of years ðŸ˜ƒ

I have recently added a 3rd pc to my slave set up - so i have

i7  32gb Cubase Master (Vienna Pro License)

i7  64gb  Pc Desktop Slave 1 (Vienna Pro License)

i7  32gb Pc Laptop Slave 2 (Vienna Pro License)  .  I am also using a TP LINK GIGABIT Switch , as each pc only has one ethernet port.

I have a large orchestral template, spread out across Vienna Pro 5 , with Cubase 8.5 64 bit as my sequencer.

Until recently i had only 2 pc's connected - by a crossed Ethernet Cable - and that was easy to set up with static IP addresses on each machine , which i could then match up in IP4 - working no problems.

However, as i need more RAM and have added a 3rd machine the need for a switch has made things much more difficult - for me at least.  The Tp Link Gigabit switch has 5 ports , but it is hard to find out its fixed ip. When i ipconfig it from  each machine i get a slightly different answer.  For example from this machine : 192.168.1.83, but the other pc comes back 192.168.1.88.   So i have set all 3 pcs with static addresses around this (i.e. 192.168.1.92 , 93 , 94 etc) ,  but i am a bit lost beyond this as to all the other settings to make.

The good news is via the Host , it does recoginse all 3 pcs , and vienna Pro Servers , but there are often gremlins, where it takes much much longer to connect to an instance, or an  instance reports being connected to Cubase ,when it clear is not, and other things like instruments disappearing, occassional hangs, not always loading up as you expect.

Sorry for such a long post but i am sure among you Lan experts on this community there must be an easy ish way of connecting 3 pc's via a switch and lan without any network problems.    I know very little about Local area, and while i have set up a homegroup between the pcs to transfer files, and made it a private network , getting a stable working environment for Composing is the most important thing .

So if any one can point me to the easiest guide for getthing all three working together flawlessly, like i had the 2 pcs working i would be so grateful .  I imagine there is a straight forward guide some where but i cant seem to find it 😞    Thanks for your help in advance.

I am not too bothered about being connected to the net at the same time - so long as i can just pull out a cable etc when i need to download, if that makes it easier.

Thanks in advance for any help , advice the community can give

    Paul J

  • The switch doesn'at have an IP. Your existing machines should remain unchanged. Just look to see what IP the new system is asinged through DHCP, and make that the static IP.

  • Hello Paul,

That is great for a big projects.

Do I really need to use the Multiport Template for a String Quartet or a Solo Violin?

  • Hi,

I´d stick to single instances for smaller projects.

    Awsome:

Can VLS do one for Pro Tools and VEPro 5 ?

I am having some challenges configuring the multi port with Pro Tools 11.3

I have VEPro 5 on a slave PC hooked to my mac it is workign great with Sibelius 7.x

but the instrument input interface is not avaliable for pro tools?

Can someone shed light on this?

Dear Logic & Vienna Ensemble PRO 5 users,

We have just uploaded the brandnew 16 Port Multiport Template Song for Logic X PRO 10.1 or higher!

    • Up to 256 MIDI Channels available within 1 VE PRO instance (without using Event Input Plug-ins!!)
    • No more dropouts and hanging notes due to the increased internal buffer size since Logic PRO X 10.1

Check out the great overview in this starting template, conveniently organized with Track Stacks and documented in the updated VE PRO 5 manual (page 45).

    Best,

  • Hi Itzhak,

Both RTAS and AAX offer multiple ports by design...

  • Hi Paul,

Is there any way to route the audio returns seperately back into Logic X?  I have a VEP orchestral template on a slave PC that I would love to transfer over to a version of the Multiport Template (lots of hanging notes with my current Event Inputs).  But I absolutely NEED the audio to come in on seperate tracks so that I can bus it out to seperate stems.

Previously, I was using multiple VEP instances, but it was a pain to reconnect each instance if I ever lost the LAN connection and I've been told that VEP works much more efficiently with only one instance.

    Thanks for your time!

    Not with Logic Pro.

  • So the controller issue. Could somebody just clarify for me if I am building a big template using Logic X and VSL, do I only use CC11 for volume or do I have to remap every single channel in some way? I've been speaking to a number of more experienced logic users who recommend using a single instance of VSL EP for each port because it doesn't hammer a single core of the DAW cpu because of all the Aux inputs you use for the multiple outputs, you get full CC control and no port problems but of course your VSL meta looks a bit of a mess!

  • Hey guys,

I've downloaded this template and it seems be giving me multi-timbral playback no problem. The issues I'm having is with volume and pan automation, which is essentially non-functinoal. The main audio return from VEP5 is super choppy and is being triggered by source midi tracks.

When I move volume or pan automation data attached to the source  Logic midi track it also controls the volume fader of the "VE Pro 1 Main" track that is the return audio signal from VEP5. This does not work as lets say something fades in whil somethign is fading out. I can basically use no volume and pan, I get lots of pops and clicks and random volume jumps.

    Question:

Can I use volume and pan info on the Logic source midi track? I'm talking about basic volume and pan automation attached to the Logic track or Region.

Why are the source tracks triggering the "VE Pro 1 Main" return track?

What's the best setup for pan and volume from Logic to control VEP loaded soft synths such as East West Play, or Kontakt player?

Is there a step by step procedure of what all the ports and channels should be from start to finish? Is this in the manual?

Please help, I have a big deadline this week!

    thanks!

    Bill

Have you updated to the latest Logic?  From what I understand, Apple fixed the issue of the volume CC controlling the host instrument track instead of passing through to the individual channels residing inside of the instrument.

    Paul,

I definately need help to get the multi port templates working but I can't find any "updated VE PRO 5 manual" on the page you suggested. Where is the updated manual?
If it makes any difference I am using VEPro 6.

    Thanks - Jim

  • I have used both the VE Pro 5 Multiport 1x16 and VE Pro 5 Multiport 2X48 templates and have used them sucessfully.  However I am building a new template where I want 6 seperate Instances so I was building an Orch Template using VE Pro 5 Multiport 6X16 but found I could only get the VE Pro 1 Main working with all its ports properly.   Not sure why but the midi signal does not pass to the server on the VE Pro Mains 2 thru 5.

Has anyone else had this is.   I believe there maybe an issue in the Midi Environment but I was unable to debug it.

Any help would be greatly appreciate

    Thanks

In VEPRO Server, make sure you set the intended instance’s plugin port to your desired port. I think they’ll always default to port 1 so you’ll have to change it manually.

  • Thanks for the quick reply.

I will look at the manuel but I could not find how to change VE Server Midi Port for the Instance.  I

In the template 2X48 the Main 2 works without any adjustment of Midi Port setting for an Instance,  of course within an Instance you assign the midi port and midi channel for each instrument.  The 2X48 support 2 Instances.

The 1X16 there are 16 ports with 16 channels to one instance where as the 2X48 has 48 ports in 2 instances.

  • I have figured out that the Logic Pro X midi Environment in the Midi Template for 6X16 seems to have been generated basically from the 2X48 Template so that the Mains work this way

    Main 1 uses Midi Port 1 - 16

    Main 2 uses Midi Port 17- 32

    Main 3 uses Midi Port 33 - 48

Main 4 uses Midi Port 1-16

Main 5 uses Midi Port 17-32

Main 6 use Midi Port 33-48.

I was hoping someone may be able to shed some light on this approach.

I was looking at making the change in the Template to just use Midi Port 1-16 for all each of the Mains.

I haven't figured out the reason for the existing Enviroment of the midi Transforms for each of the Mains and if I edit each of the Transforms to just be 1-16 if I would be breaking something else in the process.
