  • I agree - I guess I'm a bit impatient but would be great to know what (if anything) has changed/improved with the new Logic Pro X released today! :)

    Regards,

    CLK

  • After a small amount of testing with VEP, it seems very little has changed, still using the Event Input plugin etc.

    Hi Cyril,

I supposed you had Logic X for beta testing.

What improvements are liked to VSL ?

    Did they improve score ?

To be honest: We were surprised to see the Logic Pro X as well, we didn´t know anything about it.

We´re just digging in like everybody else [:)]

  • On further examination and a direct question to Apple - it doesn't look like they've addressed the spike core problem you get with Kontakt. What is the fucking point of having a 64 bit program like Logic and then loading your computer with a sh$t load of ram only to get almost immediate spikes followed by overload crackles. Waste of time. I will certainly look at Cubase and the its next incarnation whenever that happens.

  • And there is no upgrade price either. So if you have Logic Pro 9 - AND it works, what is the point in an almost useless upgrade? Awesome.

The secret was well kept !

I have read one article that is speaking a new score !

Can we have more that 16 midi tracks ?

    This is very promising !!

You could add a note length analyser and a lot of feature that will automize Logic to VSL

There is a lot to read at :

  • Hi Cyril and others,

I owned and used Logic since 13 years. I bought Logic X yesterday. I worked with it about 4 hours. In brief:

    Good things :

    • There are many good things in the new interface (to be honest, it is not just another skin or a GarageBand porting as I read on other forums). From a Logic user point of view, the ergonomic of this DAW was already one on the best. Lot of little details make Logic X much better then LP9.
    • Some interesting plugins (battery, synth, etc.).
    • TrakStack new function that will be very convenient (it already existed in other DAW)
    • The new "melodyne" style tool (Flex Pitch) is very well designed (fully integrated into Logic as good as FlexTime since LP9)
    • All my 64 bits plugins seems to work (except VSL MIRacle; addendum: fixed in a second pass). But, bye bye to 32 bits tools.
    • Songs migration from LP9 done without any problem until now. Same with big orchestral templates (with VEP and a lot of VIP).
    • The whole thing seems more efficient (less tics, hanging notes, etc.). Still too soon to make defitive conclusions here.
    • The iPad app (with its dynamic Help). Very nice!
    • Etc.

    Less good things :

    • Most of previous Logic instruments and tools are still unchanged (few exceptions). Most of them are old (like EXS24).
    • No big improvement underhood. Nothing close to advanced Cubase's Midi functions (multiport, VST Expression, note expression, etc.). So Vienna's Multiport Layer for Logic still best choice for dealing complex templates and hyper edith (revamp as Step editor) still «does the job» for basic management of articulations changes.
    • No BIG innovation that challenge other DAWs. It seems that Logic engineers didn't worked intensively on that major upgrade during last 4 years (since LP9).
    • No upgrade special price (199$).
    • Etc.

So, I'm not really happy, but not really unhappy. I have some real disappointments, but some nice surprises too (those little interface details that I began to discovered working concretly with this new version).

(Sorry again for my bad english)

    Hope this will be helpfull.

  • Hello C.B.

    Many thanks for your report.

Have you find the manual for the midi script editor ?

That could be very helpfull depending how is stored the midi notes  and if you have access to all the score accidents !

Did you try  to install Logic X on your MacBook and on your Imac with a single lincense ?

    Best

    Cyril

  • The new Track Stack is great to work with Dimension instruments.

It's a mix of a Folder track and an Aux track with midi data.

So you can put all 8 dimensions violins midi track with their output in it. Use the main track stack to play 8 violins in unison or open the stack to make divisi part. And you can put inserts and sends on the stack.

  • Hi there!

Has anyone tried 3R Audio's VSL Performance Tool for Logic Pro X?

Please let me know what you think.

    Thanks!
