  • Quick Questions Re. Dimension Strings Demo Video

Great demo, Paul. Unclear on a couple of things... basically how Dimension Strings works with VI Pro and MIR? In places, the demo actually sounds 'real'... first time I can honestly say that about a chamber orch. sample lib (with all due respect to Chamber Strings, of course.)

    1. I assume you VI Pro is a -requirement-, correct? You can't do the divisis without it, right? For example, the 4/2 and 2/4 patches won't work without VI Pro, right?

    2. Is MIR also a practical requirement? It -seems- like MIR is what handles the 'placement' of the players, right? Put another way, what in that demo is -requires- MIR?

    3. (actually a request)... If you can keep the offer until Nov 1, I'd sure appreciate it... mainly because that's when I get paid. :D

    4. A small comment. I very much like the sound of the Konzerthaus -however- maybe it's just me, but the demos always seem a bit too 'wet'. My -theory-,,, and it may be more than a little half-baked... is that all reverbs (and sample libs) should be recorded in a -full- theatre---ie. with all the people in the seats. I always feel like sample libs and 'verbs sound like the house is way too -empty-. I'm only being half-facetious in suggesting that you get like 500 mannequins for the recording sessions. :D

    Hi Suntower,

    1) VI PRO is not a requirement, but it will help a lot. It offers 16 slots for each cell, so you can actually load all 8 players with 2 articulations to blend between. With VI, you canuse 4 cells => maximum 2 players per instance.

A free demo license for VI PRO is available on the VI PRO product page (click "try").

    2) We used MIR PRO to visualize the players. Which you can actually place anyway you like. MIR PRO is great when it comes to quick and authentic placement, of course. But of course the Dimension Strings also work with any other mixing method.

To test MIR PRO, please follow the instructions in this thread.

    3) Not decided yet, but we´ll keep you up to date with the newsletter.

    4) Check out the demo of MIR PRO, you´ll be amazed on how many parameters you can adapt. From the size of the room (you can recalculate it) over microphone choice and placement to simply adjusting the wet/dry parameters of each musician. Not to mention the additional MIRacle plug-in....

Reverb will always be a matter of taste.

    Best,

    Paul

  • .Thanks for the reply, Paul.

But just to clarify: you need MIR in order to change the position of players, right? I mean, one of the selling points of Dimension Strings is that you can create 2nd violins by changing the prominence of the players. But you can't do that without MIR, right?

Sorry to be so thick... I'm really impressed by Dimension Strings... I'm embarrassed to say I just don't know if I can afford it if -and- MIR -and VI Pro...

As I;ve written you privately, MIR is really quite something.

    Best,

  • Hi JC,

You can get a similar effect by using the "normal" mixing methods of placement and depth of players in a room. Just as with any other instrument.

With Dimension Strings, each player is available separately, and you can make use of this feature in any way you like.

    Best,

    Paul
