  • Dropped MIDI notes with Event Input in DP7.24

    Hi there,

Thanks again for the work around on the midi port issues. This is a huge benefit to us! It is currently only causing one problem that prevents this being functional for me.

I am having repeated problem with dropped MIDI notes. It misses quite a few. I followed another post's fix for this by deleting the channels and starting the V-Rack from scratch. This worked for a time but now the dropped notes are back despite not having touched the V-Rack. Maybe 1/10 notes are dropped, and often there is a stuttered or flammed MIDI note after the one that was dropped.

-Running DP 7.24 in 'all plugins live' mode
    -VEP 5.0.10068
    -MacPro 2.8 8-core late 2008

    Thank you!

    Chris

  • it is good to see that the problem is not only with Logic.

To avoid this I have been using IAC to send the Midi to VEP.

The audio is sent back the  VEP AU

I have noticed improvement with Event input since last VI upgrade of Friday, but there are still a few hanging notes.

Try IAC and tell us if it is working better

  • I can't figure out how to link the IAC Bus to Vienna. Can you specify? I can set it up in DP, but it doesn't want to connect to VEPro. Thanks for the help!

  • In the mixer, instead of selecting port 1, you select your IAC port

    Et voilĂ

  • In the mixer of DP or VEPRO? I can select the IAC Bus in DP, but VEPRO will only let me choose from their MIDI Ports, there isn't an option for IAC. Is there a setting I am missing? Thanks! Chris

  • Did you define the IAC in Audio midi setup ?

You select the IAC input in the Mixer of the VE PRO server

Send me an Email I will send you a screen copy

  • Cyril, are you still finding the AMS IAC to be a help with stuck/hanging midi notes?

  • I get the best results with IAC with Logic

  • Cyrtil, thanks very much for your quick reply!

I have never worked with iAC before and am have two problems, but you may not be aboe to heap, as you are using Logic (and I am DP). First probelm is that, after enabling IAC, when i attempt to arm a midi track in DP that has been routed to IAC, DP will send me a warning that arming this track would create a midi-loop and will not allow me to arm the track. Hence no midi data can be routed to VEPro5. Second thing is that, if I go back in to AMS, to the setup of IAC, and attempt to remove the "midi IN" port that would be causing the midi loop mentioned above, AMS will not let me change either the number of midi IN's or midi OUT's for the IAC port.

So again, thanks for your quick reply and if you have any thoughts about the above, thanks in advance!

You should look in the DP forum

For Logic to solve this you will link the input to a "monitor"

  • We too see a bunch of random drops with Event Input with DP. Love thwe feature, but hard to get things done. Between stuck notes and dropped ones. Buffer size increase does not help. OSX 10.6.8 DP 7.2x multiple MacPros tons of ram

  • Do you have audio plugins set to realtime in DP's preferences?

yes, Karel. I am going to chime in here as I couldn't get any repsonse to my previous post http://community.vsl.co.at/forums/t/32861.aspx

but yes, all of my plugins are set to "realtime"

Do those dropped notes happen with other instruments than Kontakt as well for you?

  • Hi Karel. Yes we always run in realtime mode on all our plugins. And dropped notes happen in other apps, like Omnisphere, etc Thanks for helping us.

Karel, my sincere apology for being so late to respond to you. The answer is, I'm not sure! 99% of all of the VI that I use are Kontakt, and though I have 7 or 8 others, I have not tested them in sequences.

All that I can add about this problem is this problem seems to be more accute when the amount of midi data in a Digital Performer file gets very large, i.e. if I have only a few DP tracks, using only a few VEPro5/Kontakt5 instances, it is unliikly that I will get dropped or hanging notes. OTOH, if I am doing an orchestral score, in sections where the entire orchestra is playing, there is a very good chance that I will get dropped or hanging notes. And once it happens, the file seems to get terminally corrupted and even if I reduce the number of instruments playing, dropped or hanging notes still occur.

    again, thanks for your assistance

  • Our orch template is also quite large in DP7.2x. Stuck notes or drop outs can occur even if only using 5 trks in a section. And we run very capable MacPro rigs here.

  • Anything new on this? I'm still at VE4 and am considering upgrading to 5, mostly for the extra midi the Event inputs allows, but would really like to avoid headaches like these. It reminds me of the volume surges I experienced ni DP5 that motu never fixed (or even acknowledged I think) until they got to version 7.
