Willie, just to clarify, we've always been able to bounce normal MIDI tracks going to the first 16 channels of a VEP instance. The question is whether we can bounce MIDI tracks using VEP Event Input to more than the first 16. Can you confirm whether that's what you did? I was holding off on buying DP* as I normally wait for the .1 update of any software, but if you're bouncing Event Input tracks, I'll order today!

Randin, yes I can confirm that I did this successfully a couple of days ago with DP8 & VEP5. I had an empty DP8 seq., with a single instance of VEP5 containing a single Kontakt5 instrument, and a single instance of VEP5Event routed to that K5 instrument. I selected the midi info in DP8 and "bounced to wav" and success! I've got the wav to prove it!@didger said:

The only thing that I've changed is that, at the time, I'm pretty sure I was still on VEP5 "11262". And now, I've upgraded to VEP5 "11548". And now, when I try and bounce the midi track, I either get an empty wav, or one with broken notes.
So, not sure where it all is yet, I'll be most anxious to hear what Karel's tests indicate?

So far I haven't found any problems with VE Pro 5 and DP8. And indeed, bouncing with the Audio/Event Input plugin seems to work flawlessly. Mind that all affected tracks (VE Pro Server Interface plugin track, its assigned VE Pro Audio/Event Input plugin tracks and their respective audio/MIDI tracks) need to be selected or bouncing will indeed just result in silence. It is still required to set the Audio Plug-ins preferences to All Plug-ins in Real-time for proper functionality, much like with DP7. All in all a rather major improvement.
EDIT: I was a bit premature in my conclusions about bouncing. It only happened to work in my one test session, but I can't get it to work again now. Apologies.

Karel, this is excellent news! But please, just to be clear?
On 11/01/2012, you were saying, "..this issue is unlikely to be solved due to the way DP handles bouncing,..."
And then no further word on the matter,
And now, you are saying, " indeed, bouncing with the Audio/Event Input plugin seems to work flawlessly."
Would you think it was the changes in VEP5 and/or the changes in DP(8) that made the difference?
thanks for following up on this

I'm talking about DP8. The guys at MOTU were made aware of the issue and solved it. It was not really a bug in DP7 as such. More like DP7 not being ready for the way the VE Pro 5 Audio/Event Input plugins work. Nobody is to blame in the matter but the changes in DP8 fixed the issues with bouncing and latency compensation with regards to VE Pro.
EDIT: I was a bit premature in my conclusions about bouncing. It only happened to work in my one test session, but I can't get it to work again now. Apologies.

Karel, unfortunately I am not getting the same results. I've followed your instructions above, but - while I can get a perfect MIDI bounce with midi tracks assigned to the 16 channels of the VE Pro Server Interface plugin track - the midi tracks assigned to a VE Pro Audio/Event Input plugin track just yeild an audio bounce that has a handful of erratic notes playing. BTW, this is all with Kontakt 5 plugins. Any thoughts?@Karel said:

I'm very sorry, but it seems I was a bit premature in my conclusions about bouncing. It only happened to work in my one test session, but I can't get it to work again now. I'll try to find out what made it work that one time, but it doesn't look too promising at this point. My sincerest apologies for any false hope I may have given you.

Knowing the bounce problem, I did a Freeze Tracks instead, selecting the entire short sequence, and I got some gargled sounds on two of the eight stereo tracks I froze. Freezing one at a time produced good results. So I don't know if things got worse with DP8. This is on VE5, but I didn't use any event inputs. Will do some more tests once (if) I survive my current deadline. Anyway, hope things gets worked out soon.

Hi Karel,
any news on this subject? I've got my DP8 upgrade copy on my shelf waiting to be installed (still on DP 7.24/VEPRO 4). Then I'd like to upgrade to VEPRO5, hopefully knowing that "bounce to disk" is going to work just fine sometime in the near future. Am I being too optimistic? 😉
Cheers

Hi - for what it's worth and just bin case it helps - it looks like DP8 is a one way upgrade and you can't easily go back to DP7 if it doesn't work out. There are some issues with DP8 which will be resolved in the 8.1 update according to a friend who spoke to MOTU yesterday. Quite aside from the bounce to disk thing, I am staying with DP 7 until the first update. The other option some people have done is to put DP8 and a OS on a separate drive to test. I have no problems with VSL5 inside DP7 but I don't use the event input bounce to disk thing anyway at the moment.

Thank you Karel for pointing that out. Anyway I'd like to know if there has been any progress in the "Event Plugin/Bounce to Disk" issue.
Your last words on ther subject were

Thank you Flashman for sharing your experience.
Re DP8 quirks, I know what are you talking about. I'm constantly readings other user's experience at Motunation and so far there are some bugs that are a no go for me and my personal workflow. Me too I'm waiting for a .01 bug release to upgrade.

It's unlikely that this bounce issue (which, I emphasise, only happens when using the Event/Audio Input plugins) will be fixed anytime soon. However VE Pro 5 works just the same way as VE Pro 4. You don't have to use the Event/Audio Input plugins if you don't want to and your projects will just open as before. Everything works just as well (and better) than with VE Pro 4. Just to make clear that VE Pro 5 is not worse than VE Pro 4 in DP in any way.

I've set the number of ports to 16, restarted VE PRO5 I can see them set plugin to receive to them but when I go to DP8 and add the event plugin it shows only 8 ports. Then I go back to VE PRO and it shows 8 ports only! I go back in the pref and still says 6 ports. Is that a DP limitation or bug?

Hi Karel, I'm late to this conversation but am all too familiar with the issue. I had a similar experience as you with Bounce to Disk where when I tested DP8 with a large template using the Event Processor - and it worked fine, then it stopped working correctly - notes would bunch together in odd ways - and then it stopped working entirely.
I know I can freeze and bounce, but my template is 150 or more midi tracks, and my music can be as long as 5 minutes. Freeze/bounce takes too long under a tight television deadline, and I have resorted to bussing the VEPro plugin to an audio track.
I am on the latest releases of DP and VEPro and it won't Bounce to Disk. Is there any hope for a fix?
Thanks,
Robert

+1
Hi Karel, the Release Notes for the new DP update (8.0.5) clarly states:
"Improved compatibility with Vienna Symphonic Library (VSL) and Vienna Ensemble Pro (VEP)."
So, is there a chance that Event Plugin/Bounce to Disk issues has been addressed?
TIA
