  • VEP+Cubase - effects routing and automation

Hi guys, I confess that I've never spent any time trying to use effects, but in some cases, I've gone into Cubase and added an Altiverb instance, then used the automation to fade it in or out.

Now, in VEP, I'm totally lost. If I have, for example, 8 VSL instances in VEP64, how do I arbitrarily apply whatever audio effect to only one instrument, AND be able to automate it (fade in, out, automate a parameter etc.) in a Cubase automation track, without having to do it on the main VST in Cubase, which affects everything it seems?

Say I add Altiverb, in the effects area in one instance of a VSL instrument in VEP. How do I go about automating just that single instrument?

Sorry for the host of basic questions lately, but I'm really trying to learn. Too much at once probably lol.

  • right now, you can't. this is planned for the next update.

you can automate the send levels and the channel volume from the instrument channel in cubase, but parameters of an audio fx, no.

IE: for a fade, just create a new bus in VEP, insert Altiverb, and send the instrument(s) you want to be effected to it and you can automate the sends and the 'return', ie., the volume of that bus channel, in cubase. but you cannot write to the parameters *inside* the plug, as you see there is no write button. I am hoping the new version is out soon, this certainly affects me, as I like to automate EQ settings particularly and I have to load instances of Vienna Suite in Cubase, which is definitely less efficient in use of resources than VEP on my system.

  • Good to know, thanks. The one thing I do like to do with Cubase is use the automation tracks to set my levels/settings etc. offline, ie not with a fader live, I prefer it this way (to write it in with the pen and line tools). Hopefully the new update is going to be released soon:)

I did see a VSL video on how to do some of what I'm asking (I think it says to do basically what you said), but I forget where that video is. I think it was in a VSL reverb tutorial. I'll have to look around again:)

  • ps  I plan on getting Vienna Suite and using Cubase lanes to automate, so I hope that's possible:)
