  • mixing audio outside of MIR

    If you have an orchestra set up in MIR,  is there any reason to AVOID recording instruments separately and then mixing them in an external DAW?  I am wondering if some sort of acoustic interaction would be missing, or anything else.  


  • It shouldn't make any difference, as long as you switch the room noise off. However, it will make it difficult to judge things like wet/dry balance, as the whole mix may change the perception of certain instruments.

    The acoustic interaction happens between the signals themselves, so there's nothing wrong (technically) with mixing MIR-outputs in stems. As a matter of fact, MIR Pro will make this possible all by itself.

    ... if you're the adventurous type, you could also try to adapt the Output Formats and/or the Room EQs to specific needs of certain instruments or ensembles.

  •  Thanks DG and Dietz.  I tend to "audition" the mix in MIR and then freeze the stems for mixing elsewhere so will go ahead with that.
