I'd like also put in a request for downloadable sections. I'd love to have the trumpets, but I can't see myself buying the whole collection just for them.

Almost the same situation here. I'd like to purchase the trumpets and the horns but don't have any need for the trombones and the bass section.

    Hi Steve!

For Sibelius I created additional presets for the Low Brass section in order to use them without octave transposition. You can find them with the latest version of the "VE Woodwinds+Brass" sound set.

    Best regards,
    Andi

Hello Andi, Wondering that does your writing mean that one can now use any instrument of the Low Brass ensemble as an individual instrument? So Tuba, for example, can be used alone without hearing Bass trombone? Thanks. -Anssi

  • Hello Anssi!

Yes, you can use every instrument of the Low Brass section individually. As they were recorded together, you will hear some bleeding from the other instruments though.

    Best regards,
    Andi

  • Hello Andi, Thanks for the reply. Ok. Does the individual use work for the whole range of any "low" instrument? Also how the individual use of an instrument is accomplished.... do you fade the other instruments sound or something? -Anssi

  • The range for the Low Brass goes from C1 to C3. All four players are available in individual patches and can be faded down, unloaded or simply not loaded in the first place.

  • Ok, thanks. One more thing: is there a solo or X voice command available in the Sibelius soundset...? Meaning that sometimes 2 horns or 1 horn would play instead of 4 french horns? -Anssi

  • Yes, that's possible. Details on how to do that can be found in the "Optimizing Sibelius Playback" manual.

  • Ah.. thanks Andi. Ok... pages 13 and 14. Seems easy. a2,a3,a4 for unisono ensemble.. 1., 2., etc. for solo... div, div2 for divisi. Although one question pops out: what happens if there are three notes, but four divisi players? Do one of the players then automatically second some of the player? -Anssi

  • Hi Anssi!

If you play divisi and have only three notes, only Players 1 to 3 will play.

    Best,
    Andi

  • Hello Andi, Ah. Ok. Thanks for your answers. Best regards. -Anssi

  • Although the thread digressed a little from the original intent, i want to say that I'm not getting the Dimensional Brass because it is not available as downloadable. The stupid import taxes in Brasil makes it much more expensive than the intended price. Make a downloadable version and I'll buy it immediately.

  • Actually a better way would be for the product to be valued at the cost value of the actual DVDs that the sample come on, which is virtually nothing. then only the licence would have to be downloaded, which is sort of the case anyway.

In the UK there are no import taxes on sample libraries, as the buyer doesn't actually own anything. However, in the past many purchasers have had fights with the Customs officers, which are too stupid to understand their own rules.

FWIW I do know another company that has adopted the method that I outline, and maybe it would be a good thing for VSL to consider.
