  • Legato tool

     Hello

the Legato tool  stoped working in Logic 9.1.1

I can hear the sample but no legato on legato patches.

I have tried different instruments ie.. HO-4_ perf-leg, Trc_perf legato _no vib Flute1_perf-legato etc.

It  worked  with the Standalone at first but then I thought maybe I needed to update the Vienna player software so I downloaded the latest version v 4 build 5740

Now neither are working in Standalone or plugin in Logic

For reference I am using Mac OS 10.5.8 on a Mac 2.26 8 core with 10 gig of ram.

Of course this happens when I have a deadline.

    Any help is much appreciated.

    Hi moon,

I assume that you are referring to the Vienna Instruments, and I also assume that you are working with the latest version of Vienna Instruments (2.1.5740), ist that correct?

If the Vienna Instruments open, then it should work with all its features. I have not heard of a similar case in the 4 years that the Vienna Instruments have been on the market.

Could it be that there is a MIDI conflict that is causing this, like multiple MIDI Inputs selected for a VI instance, or a MIDI loop?

In any case, I´d suggest to uninstall Vienna Instruments with the included un-installer, then re-install it. Also, check your environment in Logic - the best way to go is to start with an empty song (not your default song).

Another question: What happened before VI stopped working? Any upgrades, new programs, new controllers?

    Best,

    Paul

    Thanks for the quick reply.

    Yes

I would agree up until this problem started.

In Logic I have one track only on the Arrange window assigned to one VI instance.

This is set to midi channel 1

I have uninstalled and reinstalled. I don't think you mean the library content which is on another external drive.

I even uninstalled Vienna Ensemble 2 and puchased Vienna Ensemble Pro and installed it.

Another question: What happened before VI stopped working? Any upgrades, new programs, new controllers?

I did install Kontact 4 (free) but this was when I was using VE 2 and not VE Pro(which I knew had an issue of compatibility)

But since this problem happened I uninstalled Kontact 4 just to make sure

I was also on MacOS 10.5.8

It was reccommended that I upgrade to Snow Lepard which I did. But this was after the problem started.

I installed it with hopes of fixing the problem.

  • Hi Bob,

Just to rule out possible culprits in your setup, please power off your Master Keyboard, activate the CapsLock Keyboard in Logic and play the respective Patches using your Computer Keyboard - does that sound as it should?

Have you perhaps connected any pedals to your Keyboard, which may interfere or send premature Note-Off signals?

As Paul already pointed out, there is in fact no reason we can think of, which would cause the Legato Mode alone not operating properly in Vienna Instruments!

    Best, Marnix

  • Marnix

Sorry about the delay in response.

I had to leave town for a few weeks

When playing the CapsLock keyboard in Logic only, everything works and sounds  correct.

I have never had a problem with the M-Audio Keystation 88es before.

The only pedal I use is the sustain pedal and it has been connected to it from the very beginning when everything worked fine.

How did this keyboard suddenly become incompatible with the software?

    Thanks for your help.

  • Hello moon. Two long shots: 1) If you have anything connected to the MIDI IN socket of the M-Audio Keystation 88es, unplug it and try again. 2) Check that the keyboard isn't generating data on more than one MIDI channel - you can do this by recording a short sequence and examining the 'event list'. If notes are somehow inadvertently being duplicated inside Logic it could confuse the legato performance.

  • Conquer

Thank you very much for your suggestions.

My work around this problem was to use a different keyboard and now everything is working right.

  • That's good to know. I guess some parameter in the original keyboard has changed and is now set wrongly - for example, it might be sending an 'all notes off' message every time you release a key, or something stupid like that. If you have the inclination (and time), check the keyboard's MIDI transmit page for anything that looks suspicious!

  • I think there should be a way to initialize all the MIDI settings of your keyboard. Check the manual for it.
