  • Several years and you're just now posting something about it?!?!?  Jasen is right... that's a bit hasty. Paul and Maya and everyone else at VSL have always been great working with me with any problems i have had, so i would definitely suggest contacting them about your situation (and one of them will likely respond to this thread soon anyhow.)  I've run VSL on Logic for years now and have NEVER had it crash on me... sure, if had some weird issues here and there, but they've always gotten worked out.... And i am using a fairly Old computer (Mac Dual G5.)

So unless you are coming up short somewhere on the system requirements, im sure it can be worked out. Besides, converting Tens of thousands (if not HUNDREDS) of samples, then importing and laying them out, and THEN writing a script for them would be impossible. I cant even imagine how you would indepently get the transitional/interval samples cleanly recorded. The task you would be trying to take on would be of epic proportions. Additionally, what you would be doing might even be in violation of the licensing agreement (although don't quote me on that.) If i remember correctly when we buy a VSL product we do not *technically* own the samples, merely the right to *use* them.

Anyhow, don't fret. Just get in touch with customer service and have all your system specs ready, and i bet they can get it working for ya. Best of luck

  • I have been in contact with support, twice! Just because I havent wrote about it here doesn't mean that I havent spoke to support! OK??

About resampling - Do you think that I have recorded the samples? O god - You know, you can create an soundfile internal in non realtime, like a mixdown, and the computer computes everything. I just need to cut the soundfile in new samples - no problem and of course legal! But it takes too long time. I want someone to create a program that converts all samples (back to) aiff - and then I can use them in other samplers that works much better! I have converted 1000 samples at least and realize that I have to continue.

Good for you that you doesnt have any problems - But I can tell you that its just pure luck!

  • Yes, why do you think they have created an own filetype - Its because they doesnt want anyone to spread them! Its because they want to make money and that nobody can crack it. - BUT we (the legally users) have to pay the price in poor softwares and bad programmings. We are forced to use Viennas sampleplayer, not because we wants it but we wants the samples, right...

I have tried this software on G4, and Intel dualcore 2 gig ram, with averything up to date... With extarnal firewire-disc - ProTools, Cubase, Logic, Max - Internal soundcard, RME Fireface 800, Mbox... In cubase I can work for about two minutes, then the sound starts to hack and get interupted...

I think I have the right to get the samples in aiff-format - I have bougth this shit for expencive money. During my resample sessions I also found that the samples are in very various quality. It was also me who found that several release samples were missing in solostrings, cello and contrabas. So you can now download an upgrade to these patches.

I wants it to work like ProTools or Max or Reason - Years of use between the crashes and problems, not just 5 minutes.

  • I have created my own sample player, built in the MaxMSP programming enviroment. Works like a dream!

    Hello Lars,

so how much do you want for it? [^o)]

Seriously, just checked your last conversation with Maya in May 2010, your last mail conversation with Maya Vinson from our Support Team ended with:

    "Thanks! Alot! It works!"

    And Maya replied:

"Great to hear. Please donĀ“t hesitate to contact me whenever you have any further questions regarding our products."

Here is a link to our license agreements, that you have agreed to. The paragraphs 3 and 4 will be of particular interest to you.

    Best,
    Paul

  • Yes, that was in May, but now its July and its not! working any longer. After a few minutes the sound interupts! I have been using other softwares, like max and protools for 10 years without having any problems - If I contacted your support every time I had a problem with Vienna I would need to contact you every singel time I work with it. When I look at your community I see that many treads are about problems! Im not surpriced!

I dont want to sell my converted library - but will of course give it away for free!!!

And I can always call my samples for music. And people can "remix" my music

It's simply not allowed to do this.

    Lars,

If thatĀ“s what it takes, then IĀ“d take advantage of our support. I mean, of course you should contact us if you experience troubles.

Your last issue was resolved by updating your eLCC software....... unfortunately your very short mail to support didnĀ“t include any specs of your computer or OS.You only attached a screenshot of your Cubase that didnĀ“t work....

How could we possibly know which troubles you have been going through since then?

WeĀ“ll be happy to help you out - and the more information you want to share, the better. You can either post here in the forum (where fellow users will also be helpful around the clock) or you can contact us at

    Best,

    Paul

  • Thank-you VSL for:

    1. Being open minded enough to allow a thread such as this to exist!

    2. Not threatening to send the lawyers round!

In my experience the VSL platform is stable and reliable enough for serious professional use and has been over a number of years and system changes/product updates. To consider transferring every sample to another unsupported format when there are millions of the things strikes me as rather un-productive. If the time spent doing this was, instead, focused on making the existing product work on the applicable computer system then I'm sure this would work out the more productive system.

These forums are a fantastic resource for fellow users and VSL to help resolve problems and get the best results out of the various products. It would be a shame if the openness was compromised by people suggesting making samples available to non-licenced users in contravention of the licence agreement on the back of local system problems.

Work with the VSL team they will resolve your problems, but don't threaten their livelihoods by making their copyright work technically available to  non-licence holders.

    Julian

  • Hi Lars,

I'm sorry to hear you are having problems with VSL software. I think you're being quite unfair though, claiming "Good for you that you doesnt have any problems - But I can tell you that its just pure luck!". Basing this on your own experiences, and support post on these forums seems unthoughtful. Of course these forums are full of support requests from people experiencing problems with the software/samples. After all, that is the purpose of a support forum. Visit the forum for any complex software, and you will find the same pattern.

Personally, I find Vienna Instruments rock solid, it has never once crashed on me, and apart from Pianoteq, it's the only VST that has never casued me any trouble whatsoever (apart from rare occassions when my computer loses connectivity with the eLicenser, but this happens with all my USB-devices, so the software is hardly to blame for that). Pure luck? I'd say it's probably you that has had a brush of bad luck. Don't toss in the towel though, I'm sure you're problems can be sorted out.

    Good luck!
