Hello Andi,
Well, I suspect I may have to re-install, but here's what's happening.
1) Set MIDI/Audio > Play Finale Through Audio Units
2) MIDI/Audio > Instrument Setup > Audio Units Instruments
- Set Vienna Ensemble Pro in "slot" 1-16
- Set UVI Workstation in "slot" 17-32
- Set Synthogy Ivory in "slot" 33-48
3) Go to MIDI/Audio > Instrument List, and create a "new instrument" on Staff 1: "Flute VSL"
In the Instrument Definition window, the "Core MIDI" line, which has a pop-up to select from the available instruments only shows UVI and Synthogy, *not* VSL. The same pattern holds for whatever I put in slot 1-16 in the Audio Unit Instruments window - whatever is set for channels 1-16 won't show up in the Instrument Definition window.
Just going through it again this morning, I had the added pleasure of an absolutely horrific digital noise sound, ripping through my speakers. Luckily, I wasn't wearing headphones, and this is on my laptop, so it was just through the little built-in speakers, otherwise it would have ripped my ears out. This has been reported on the Finale form, btw.
If I just accept this 16 channel "offset", and have everything begin at slot 17-32, it will work. But the strange thing is that the *names* are offset as well, so that with the set-up described above, I'd have to select UVI to get VSL, and Synthogy to get UVI. Honestly, it's just a complete mess.
So, I don't have much hope for anything less than a re-install. But I'm definitely *not* going to wipe my system - Finale's not worth it. If ripping out and re-installing Finale doesn't work, then I'll just find a way to do what I need to do in Sibelius (or Notion).
If you have any ideas how else I might solve this problem, definitely let me know.
Thanks,
J.
