  • Vienna Ensemble in Finale 2010 - all I've got is an empty matrix

When I run Vienna Ensemble as a standalone, I see my Special Edition Presets, Matrix files, patches, etc. But when I run it within Finale, I see nothing. Is this a Directory Manager thing?

  • VE standalone and the plugin both use the same folders, that are entered in Directory Manager. Both should find the same presets, matrices and patches.

Didn't you have them in Finale as well? At least it seemed so, judging by what you have written in the other thread. Did you change something in the meantime?

Do you have your Vienna Key attached directly to your computer? If it is connected to a hub, it might not get enough power.

    Andi

  • I've always had the VSL presets, matrices, patches, etc. available in Finale as long as I'm using VSL-SE (not Vienna Ensemble). Never actually did anything to get them there, they just showed up. But now that I've downloaded V. Ensemble and am using that as a VST instrument, they're not showing up. The Key is attached directly to the computer and always has been. Nothing has been changed although in trying to correct this problem, I tried to add some files via Directory Manager. Can you explain what files I should add to the list in Directory Manager? I took a wild guess and added \VSL Instrument Files\100 SpecialEdition but that didn't help. Thanks!

  • In the Directory Manager you will have to add the folders, where your VSL content is located. 100 SpecialEdition sounds right.

With "VSL-SE" I guess you are talking about a Vienna Instruments player (VI). You should have the same presets/matrices/patches available in Vienna Ensemble (VE) and VI.

If you click on Instrument 1 in VE, you see a list of all found licenses on the left side. Does Special Edition appear there? If yes, and you still can't find any presets/matrices/patches, you will have to add the content to your Directory Manager.

  • Okay, Director Manager shows a folder called E:\VSL Instrument Files\100 Special Edition, so that looks good. The VE player says I have Special Edition Vienna Instruments installed. But still no patches, matrices, etc. I think an important clue still is this: if I bring up VE as a standalone from the Vista Start button, the patches, matrices, etc. are all there. So there's something going wrong when Finale tries to run VE.

  • That's odd. I haven't heard about such a problem yet. I suggest uninstalling and then reinstalling the latest version of Vienna Ensemble.

  • sorry to come in on this, but how do I get my special edition and SE plus to actually show up in Finale? Do I have to copy some stuff into finale folder? ..and if so which ones? Everything works great with my recording software (sonar) but I'm at aloss how to even get Finale to 'see' my vienna instruments. Help greatly appreciated Thanks Jill

  • Hello jjmus!

Here is what you can dow.

PC: To activate Vienna Ensemble in Finale go to MIDI/Audio/Device Setup/Manage VST Plug-ins and add the Plug-in directory, where your Vienna Ensemble.dll is located. Then in MIDI/Audio/Instrument Setup/VST Instruments choose Vienna Enemble. The Vienna Ensemble window, where you can load your instruments, will open automatically. Also make sure that in the MIDI/Audio menu "Play Finale through VST" is activated.

Mac: In MIDI/Audio/Instrument Setup/Audio Units Instruments choose Vienna Enemble. The Vienna Ensemble window, where you can load your instruments, will open automatically. Also make sure that in the MIDI/Audio menu "Play Finale through Audio Units" is activated.

If you haven't done so yet, I recommend downloading the Finale Human Playback Preferences and Percussion Maps at the following location:
    http://vsl.co.at/en/68/141/460/1603/1290.htm

With the Human Playback Preferences file also comes a readme me file with infos how you can use Vienna Ensemble with Finale.

    Best regards,
    Andi

Hi Andi Having trouble locating the dll files for my special edition and special edition plus of vienna ensemble. I can see them in my sonar vst plug in folder but when I negotiate to that folder from within Finale in the manage vst plug-ins it doesn't show up. In the programme files vienna instrument folder it doesn't appear to be there - either from within finale manage plug-ins or just from C:programme files/vienna instruments. Any idea where they are? Jill

  • Hello Jill!

The dlls are probably located in the VSTPlugins folder of Sonar. If you can't find them, you could use the Windows search function. The file is called Vienna Ensemble.dll

    Andi

  • Thanks Andi I think I just was not understanding how to find it from within Finale. Have found it and can now see in Finale. I shall download the Finale human playback preferences and percussion maps. Thanks again for your help (may need it again but hopefully everything should now work) All the best Jill
