  • Squeaking by on duo 1.66 GHz - Possible?

I figured I should start a new thread for this question as before I was really focusing on understanding the various products and what to buy, whereas now it's really a system capability question.

Basically, if I have duo processor Intel 1.66 GHz on my laptop, is it possible to get started with any of VSL and then reinstall on a different machine when I get one? Or is basically everything that VSL offers impossible on anything less than 2.0 GHz? Could I purchase, say, a few instruments and do chamber stuff on this kind of computer, or will it just not run at all? Is there a way to network two computers like this into a grid and have VSL run on top of the grid? Or is it just sort of like wait until I get a new computer before I can even think of VSL?

I'm assuming of course that the stuff VSL offers isn't single-install...like, if I get a new computer, I can then install whatever I've bought on that, right?

  • You can run VSL on a Pentium 4, it's just that the slower the PC, the less instruments you can run. You can link one or more computers together using Vienna Ensemble Pro.

The licence for your Instrument is installed onto  Syncrosoft dongle (not supplied), so you can transfer that to any system.

  • No, in my judgement.  My Dual Opteron, 2.4 gHz is a problem... good news is that quad cores are as cheap as 2K now... check out some of the reputable DAW builders.
