  • VEPro Cannot start audio (unknown error)

Hey guys... 1st post here as I normally am 1 to search to make sure I don't have to ask questions but I cannot get VEP to work in Pro tools... As a standalone it's fine but as soon as I open Pro tools the engine will not start there I can't get anything happening... I'm only using 1 computer so there is no slave/network going on & I've been a happy VE2 user for quite some time with no prob but I can't get this one... Anyone no the easy fix for this?

  •  Are you trying to load Protools at the same time as the standalone, or the plugin within Protools?

    DG

  • Hi DG... Well I've tried it all ways possible(known to me that is)... Loading PT 1st then VEP, loading VEP 1st then PT which won't happen because VEP is then using the driver for PT so PT won't open that way...When I load VEP as a Plug instantiate I only get the window that gives the option to connect etc. but nothing else happens afterwards... I've tried to connect & then open VEP but as I say I get the error each time...

  • This is what I'm trying to understand. Is the PT driver multi client? If not, then you can't run the standalone at the same time as PT. However, you can use VE Pro as a plugin. If you say exactly what you hope to achieve, then maybe I will have some suggestions, but at the moment I'm really not sure what you are trying to do. Sorry.

  • Just one thought. You are starting the sever first when you try to use VE Pro as a plugin, aren't you? And making sure that "advertise on local network" is checked in the Preferences in the VE Pro Server?

  • What I am wanting to do is run it just as I do VE2; Which I know you know one would open PT, instantiate VE2 & it opens Ensemble & I'm off to work immediately... Now, I'm not sure I am in full understanding of the whole network/server thing which may be my problem; On this particular computer it is host only & I have no network on it so I have all the network opts disabled on it & as for the preference you've asked me about, I do not/have not seen that option in VEP...

OK, you really need to read the manual. However......

    1. Start the VE server.
    2. Click Preferences
    3. Check "advertise on local network" in the General tab
    4. Click save
    5. Start PT
    6. Load VE Pro
    7. When the server interface appear click connect
    8. Your local PC should appear as a slave , so select that and click connect

You should now be ready to rock 'n roll.

  • OK I'll go back to the drawing board; thanks for that, but I will say, although I obviously missed something, that this is what I did but I didn't see the Advertise on Local network... I'm about to fire it up now though... Thanks again though DG... Oh, 1 thing which may be my idiot question of the day, VE server & VE Program, are they 1 in the same or is the VE server something else all together? Thatz mainly where I'm getting confused just being honest...

You mean another idiot question...! [;)]

VE Pro and VE Pro server are not the same thing. Clicking VE Pro will load a standalone. VE Pro server will load just that; the VE Pro server, and it needs to be loaded before you can use the plugin in your sequencer.

  • :D Now I know how I make the neewbs feel on the PT forum

  • Now I know why I wasn't seeing the server; I was looking directly in the VEPro folder & it doesn't appear there; I had to delete a few programs in my Startup view to actually see VEP to get to the server...
