At the moment we are working on video tutorials for the Vienna Suite and the Jazz Drums, further more Factory Presets for the Vienna Suite, and at least a bundle of midifiles for the Jazz Drums.

Are these MIDI files ready yet? I don't see any at the Download area.

They're having fun, as long as they are f*cking, but they are downloadable after that. :-P

Is the beating already included in the 395€ for Vienna Suite?

  • no, but it is a free upgrade :P

  •  I appreciate the company of people that are as cultured as you are.

  • Just bought Vienna Suite, palms sweating, afraid we may have another run on the dollar before the exchange rate gets calcuated for the transaction, just like we did this week. Had to wait for my paycheque though as I'm on a cash-only diet.

Anyway, I'm starting to download Jazz Drums, but one of the support files keeps saying it's missing:

    JazzDrumsVideo1MIDIFiles.zip

Whether I double-click or right-click, it never succeeds in finding a file to download. All of the other links are fine.

  • thanks for pointing us to this issue ... we lately moved the downloads for library files to another subsystem and obviously we overlooked this file ... fixed now

  • Thanks -- that fixed the problem, and the file is now successfully downloaded.

I am only an hour away from completing the download of the 19 Jazz Drums .cab files.

I read the manual last night, and am extremely impressed with how well it is written, how much better of a job you did of making musically useful choices in what/how to sample jazz drums (which are played quite differently from rock drums), and how smartly you arranged the individual setups and the performance enhanced matrices etc.

It's obvious that a lot of love and attention went into this library, and that it wasn't just thrown together haphazrdly as a Christmas Bonus :-).

I'm sure I'll be putting my fxpansion BFD Jazz & Funk expansion pack up for sale as soon as I audition the sounds in this library :-). I found that library grossly unsuitable for jazz, and really more of a Rock library simply played with brushes vs. sticks. You are the first to put together a truly jazz-oriented drum library. You understand that it isn't just about hitting the head with a different type of implement, but involves more nuanced playing :-).

  • Wow -- the Vienna Ensemble setup files really help a lot, even though I can't run any but the GM sets on my current machine. This may be the final push for me to upgrade right after Macworld in January/February.

Excellent kits altogether, well-recorded, and highly musical with useful articulations related to jazz drumming styles.

The only criticism is the cymbals, but the brittleness may just be my CPU overloading. At any rate, I'm keeping the BFD Jazz & Funk set because it really does offer a tremendous cymbal collection, better than their main library or other expansions. So I'll probably use it to complement the VSL Jazz Drums in cases where the stock cymbal isn't right for the project. With Jazz & Funk, I have 38 distinct choices (many types and playing styles).

I haven't used these MIDI files yet; just the Vienna Ensemble setup files that came bundled with the library. I also have some MIDI jazz patterns from Twiddly.BITS that I have not yet made use of, so it will be interesting to compare. I tend to grow my own, but for certain styles, stock patterns can speed up work and at least serve as early placeholders while fleshing out the arrangement.
