  • Hans Zimmer-esque percussion/drums? What's best?

Hi guys what's the best out there that emulates those big timpani and other types of drums that are so typical of a Hans Zimmer, Jablonsky, Klaud Badelt type score? here's a perfect example of what I mean:

the intro music Zimmer composed for The Contender show with those really heavy drums banging away under the epic strings. And what sort of drums are that anyway can anyone tell me? It sounds so metallic and heavy with echo/reverb that it's hard to determine.

Same for this Batman piece, those huge heavy drums, what are they???

Is "STORM DRUMS" from EWQL my answer? Can this sort of drum work be duplicated with just VSL?

    What are you guys using??

    Hi,

Try ProjectSam...Klaus Badelt even stumps for the True Strike Percussion set from them.

  • Thank you sir! But where can I hear samples or demos they don't appear to have them on their website ...I looked around didn't seem to find any ;\

I tried to search youtube as well for videos of someone using them to no avail :(

  • Their demo player is hidden, but you can find it on the top right hand side of the screen.  It says, "Demo Player" in vertical letters.

  • Cinesamples Drums of War could also be an option perhaps.

  • The drums are a mixture of snare drums and Taikos recorded at the hall at Air Lyndhurst Hope this helps

I use both Storm Drum and Storm Drum 2 by EWQL, and the sounds, especially SD2, are really good. Right now You get two EWQL products at the prize of one, so do it. I bought too early. :(

  • Bringing this topic back to life.
How about the VSL Percussion...? Bass drums together with the timpani and snare/taiko drums should do pretty well on those Hollywood type of scores?

you'll need some compression and exciting, etc. I'm using VSL Percussion, the bass drums sound huge, the taikos are ok, the timpani are excellent, I've found the concert toms very useful, but some other products may be 'produced', VSL are 'dry'.

  • A gunshot perhaps?... The right aim will yield even higher gains on top of loud sounds...

  • o.k., never mind, I was going to post something about imitating Zimmer but I'll refrain.  I have finally realized there is no point.

  • Hi all, Have a look at "Damage" from NI http://www.native-instruments.com/en/products/komplete/orchestral-cinematic/damage/?content=1747 F.

  • there are some rilly big toms in Cinetoms by Cinesamples. I just pulled out 'Pearl 16B brushes', NICE.
Their Drums of War is made to directly compete with that EWQL product. This sort of gigantor sound really involves production strategies. I don't know to what extent EWQL builds it into the samples, which is something I do not want, myself... their reverberation might be just the thing for 'Hans Zimmer', whose music I don't really know.

  • Sorry, I shouldn't comment.

  • I'll just leave this here. http://www.spitfireaudio.com/browse-range-signature
