Hello Gerard,
you find the manual under "Manuals" in your user area [:)]
Which OS are you working on?
Best,
Paul

I managed to run Vienna Ensemble in Logic 8 and OS 10.5 finally.
So far so good....
Can anybody explain to me how I can use it?
How can I route the VI's within the VE to my midi channels?
I tried everything, but no result!
That means that the VE is useless for me at the moment because I have no need to use it as standalone.
I know that a lot of Logic users out there would be very happy about a short VE-Logic (7 or 8) tutorial...

Hi Christof,
In Logics Environment, you will have to create a new Multi Instrument, enable its MIDI channels and connect it to the instance of Vienna Ensemble.
Then please select the Instrument strip with the Vienna Ensemble instantiated and set its MIDI channel to "all" in the left hand menu.
Now you are able to select the Multi Instrument channel by channel in the Arrangement window.

Hi,
Getting back to Gerard's original question; I've consulted the manual and I think its telling me to copy the 'Vienna Instruments Custom Data' folder into the 'VSL Custom Data' folder in the 'Shared' folder. I've done this and run the VE directory manager, restarted the computer and tried running the Ensemble but I'm being told I'm not connected.
I've also tried the 'Vienna Instruments Custom Data' folder in the 'Shared' folder with no joy.
I'm running Logic Pro 7.2 on an Intel mac OS10.4.10.
Any thoughts?
Denis
Hi Paul,
I am working on OS10.4.
I found the manual, but still am at a loss about what to do next.
Vienna Ensemble does not recognize any instruments as I understand it. That is why this server window is empty? Or is this the Vienna Ensemble services window?
Ok, I ran the new directory manager, (rescan existing), but it does not make a difference, the window stays empty.
I also read in this thread that I must make a multi instrument in Logics environment window and then connect this to the 'instance of Vienna Ensemble'.
But as Vienna Ensemble does not seem to work, how can I connect it to anything?
Hello Denis,
I understand that the custom data folder is only for saving data of instruments that were used in a certain project, like special custom made presets of a saxophone quartet for instance.
In the case that I did not save anything much yet into this custom data folder, this is still an nearly empty folder.
It does not make a difference anyway, the directory manager does not seem to do much of a job when 'rescanning existing', it is finished in half a second. I have the feeling it does not do anything.
Greetings,
Gerard
Hello Simsy,
It sounds very ingenious and complicated, but in the end, it looks like you do not use VE as a plug-in, is that right? It looks like you use 4 stand-alone VE's and port them to logic.
I want to know how to use VE as a plug-in in Logic, and first of all I want to see the blue window in logic. So far that did not even work.
Greetings,
Gerard
Hi Chris, ok I try to explain step by step: 1 go in enviroment page and select audio in the box on the left- 2 on "new" menu' create a multi instrument- 3 connect the multi instrument to the inst. 1 fader- 4 push on every midi channel (1 to 10 now are selected)- 5 return in arrange and set the midi channel of audio instrument 1 on "all" 5 then create the other 15 traks called "multi instrument (2 to 16) 6 in your audio instrument 1 now you can open your VE with 16 VI don't forget to assign the right midi channel for every VI- 7 now you can play..... Sorry for my english best Stefano@Christof Unterberger said:
still no progress...
I created a new multi, attached the cable to the VE, set midi to all, but now I'm stuck with the channel settings in the VE window...
sorry, but I need more help

Thanks very much for your help. However, I am simply not clear as to what exactly you mean. For example you suggest "connecting" a Multi Instrument created in Logic's Environment to an instance of Vienna Ensemble. How exactly does one do this? Where is Vienna Ensemble in Logic's Environment? Do you mean to instantiate VE in an Audio Instrument and then wire that AI to the MIDI Multi Instrument? Please, if possible, give us more detailed instructions. In regard to VE's Directory Manager. I found that "Rescan Existing" did NOT work. When it did not, I removed all the library folders from the VE Directory Manager and then added them, one by one. After this VE "saw" the libraries.@marnix said:

For those not familiar with the Environment (most Logic users aren't), how about a screen shot or two showing the MultiInstrument set up and how you're connecting it.
That would be very useful for a lot of people.
Yeah sounds like a good idea.
I've tried setting up the Multi instrument in the audio enviroment and connecting it to an Audio instrument with ensemble plugged in. Couldn't get it too work either....Since gone down the standalone and soundflower midi/audio as suggested by Simsy. Works pretty well. Although is a bit complicated......
Ensemble is excellant even for a Beta....thanks Vienna people...
