    Hi
    does anyone have any experience using Logic Node to distribute processing power over a cluster? Does this have a significant effect on the performance of Vienna Instruments or is that more of a RAM issue?

    Neither. It's only for Logic DSP plug-ins, and it offloads the actual processing only.

    ok. But if I had a sepaerate space designer plug-in for each vienna instrument, it would make a noticable difference if I distributed them over different porcessors??

    Seeing this issue coming up again, I've suddenly found myself wondering why Apple hasn't opened up this functionality to 3rd party developers? Strange, indeed. I'm sure a lot more people would make use of it if it were capable of clustering any AU plug. I guess with Logic Pro 8 floating somewhere in the ether it's not too late to hope...

    I'm pretty sure it doesn't work with Space Designer.

    I believe Space Designer can be processed on a node but only when it's inserted in a track. If you use it on a bus then it has to be calculated locally.

    i remember we had this discussion already with the pro edition for EXS - you would need to have a da**ed good network to do sample streaming on a node (ok, one should work, but more can become critical easily) ... or you'd need to *teach* the node how to stream sample data from a local drive (local on the node) and using which engine and settings, ect, ect ... doesn't look too easy to me.

    Last I heard, LP8 isn't coming out. They are dropping Logic Pro from their product line, and going instead with a Pro Tools killer.

    It's still going to be like Logic, but I heard the enviroment is going to be not as confusing.

    Pro Tools killer? Not unless they have the hardware to back it up.

    There have been lots of Pro Tools killers around for years. Logic 8 will come out, and everyone will complain that it's not a revolutionary advance over Logic 7.

    No application that is Mac only will "kill" Pro Tools.
