Iwan, have you ever met a musician thats 'normal'?

Let's enjoy the process and, most of all, the music.
    Carlos

Will there be an area where the forum members will be able to post music soon. I mean specifically for say, MP3's or has this already been discussed?

    Paul

  • Yes, I second Paul's suggestion above. Would it be possible to have an area to up and download mp3's here? I think it would be immensely helpful and stimulating. I've heard some of the work of composer's on this forum and it's exceptional. If I may say, many of the demos sound just like that - demos. Which is fine but doesn't show the full ranges of the VSL Library imho.

I know it's off topic but it's also on topic in that it's about music. [[;)]]

  • ähmmm .... Are we musicians?

I ask this question, because sometimes I get the feeling that people would more likely play computer action games as making music. Playing "Battle Games"?
So, Am I writing to EA Games' website or to the VSL Forum?

Is it really impossible to live in peace together?
I think we all should be able to express our opinions and feelings with our own words.
Evan did that and I'm sure that he didn't want to harm the "image" of the VSL.
Hey guys, his VSL related topics and works made my decision of buying VSL a lot easier. His comments and his support helped many of us.
And what's about the "Open Files Limitation"?
EXS Users, like myself would get crazy without his very useful topics and researches.

Maybe I'm a silly pupil but is this the niveau we are talking to each other?
I always thought that musicians are peaceful and even if they are sometimes a little jealous on someone else, they would never make an attack against their own.
Maybe it's a little easier for me to have an objectively overview, because I'm not as involved as an professional musician in the "composing" scene.

I love the Vienna Symphonic Library (and it's members) and so I also love the support of Evan, because he IS an important part of the VSL-(Crew) - World - at least for me.

Just my thoughts. And again: Sorry for my occasionally language mistakes.

    All the best,
    Hans-Peter

  • Hey... did you hear the one about the composer who wrote music.........

    Thought not!!!!!!

  • Interesting facts:
    1. Most serial killers have IQ's abvove 150.
    2. www.evanevansisatool.com is still an available domain
    3. From www.evanevans.com
After writing for radio, television, CD-Rom and CD-i, Evan found it was time to move to Hollywood to pursue film composing at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), with aspirations of scoring his first feature film whilst entrenched in Tinseltown. Studying, writing, and conducting many times a week with veteran composer Don Ray (Twilight Zone), top-notch orchestrator Steven Scott Smalley (Batman, Starship Troopers), and music editor Joseph E. Rand (Gorky Park, Titanic), at age 19, Evan emerged a 'seasoned' composer eager for that first feature film. His break came when he scored the intense, claustrophobic thriller, Killers (Icon Entertainment). Evan pursued further studies at the Nadia Boulanger Institute in Paris - sharing the same pedagogy as Leonard Bernstein, Aaron Copland, and Elliot Goldenthal, among others - and in Los Angeles with Steven Scott Smalley, Clare Fischer, and musical giant Lalo Schifrin...
"I owe so much to Lalo. He taught me a great deal about the mechanics of the film industry, orchestration, recording sessions, and the philosophy and emotional architecture of film".
Evan's credits on star-powered films include the quirky, dark comedy, Table For One, starring Rebecca De Mornay and Michael Rooker; Tripfall, with Eric Roberts, John Ritter, and Rachel Hunter; and, Newsbreak, with Judge Reinhold, Michael Rooker, and Robert Culp. He has made rounds on some of the worlds most respected art house cinema, including Miss Wonton (Sundance Film Festival), and the lyrical and controversial Coyote (Flanders Film Festival). When it comes time to conjure up tension and complexity, Evan has made his mark as the leading film composer of choice having worked on such psychological thrillers, shockers, and fantasy films as Hunting Humans, From The Grave, Future Murder, and Killers.
"One of the most fascinating and exciting moments is when I meet the filmmaker. It's at that point that I'm made aware of the context of the vision that the filmmaker has attempted. This context then becomes the driving force in actually cinematically realizing the director's vision through my musical interpretations. I don't think many filmmakers understand how vitally important the score is to the true vision of the film, but you can bet they do after they've worked with me, with my logical methods of communication, and my talents of creation."

Okay, so why hasn't Mr. Wonderful, who apparently lives life off of the wonderful luxuries of his royalties from his slew of B movies, escaped the independent film festival circuits???? Why is he still writing slash and hack scores when he appears to have so many BIG Hollywood friends and such talent and material. With his apparent brains, connections, skills, and contacts...after 8 years in Hollywood...he still isn't listed on the All-Movie guide for anything. What is the deal....I've never seen his name on anything but his posts proclaiming his success. I'm not trying to be a jerk here, Evan, I'm just living your motto for a minute and saying exactly what I think....where's the beef? What makes you so great when you've done nothing of importance. If you want everyone to be real and say what they feel, then here it come...show me the money!!! I don't want to hear you telling people how skilled and smart you are until I hear you do something worth applauding. I can believe your living off dad's royalties, because he's a true legend...but income from your work on limited release/straight to VHS horror films won't even fill your your gas tank in Carmel, CA... your whole persona is horrible fraud. You've had what 50 posts total to your fan club in 4 years...half of them are from you, and half of what's left are people telling you your dad was great. How can you have fans? You don't have any music that's been released by anyone other than yourself??? Where are they listeing to your music at? People writing porn music have been heard more than you! Okay, I've been more rude to you now than I've ever been to anyone in my life, but for 6 years, I've silently watched you demean people on the web...and in 6 years I have seen you do nothing of any importance. Show us something worth respecting you for> newbie-out [:D]

  • hey guys - that's not necessary and - hmm- somehow over-reacted. there's a lot of thruth and there's a lot of, lets say, worth to discuss. i could understand your feelings, but i cannot agree to them. please keep cool and smart.
ok, evan ... err, even i didn't follow my own targets sometimes, but please keep this a place of intellectual discussion and a room for thoughts of each flavour available to the world of creative minds.
    honestly, christian

and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.
  • Somewhere on this site i saw statement that VSL customers doesn't pay twice for the same sample. In case of timestretched samples it's difficult to say if it is fact. That was Evans disapointment. You know how artists may react: they jump of the windows, shoot their wifes and so on. So Evan shows pretty gentle reaction here.
And newbiebigtime, if for those 6 years you were learning from Enans posts and not silently watched he demean people on the web, you at least whouldn't post your last 2 posts. And your attempt to demean Evan (the most rude i ever saw on such kind of forums) whouldn't show that you are that kind of person who shoot in the back.

    Evan in the IMDB database.

Newbie, where is your record? [8-)]

  • Yes, compared to suicide and murder, Evan is relatively calm. Eclect, I appreciate your frustration with my sharped tongue post, but I insist that my remarks are genuine. My philosophy in life is to treat people with respect and even if you disagree with someone, "never burn your bridges." So I never said anything to Evan in the past, because he might someday be a person I need to deal with in the industry. And if I shot my mouth off to him as a kid, and he holds any power or persuasion over me in the future...not a good situation. You never know who will be where in the future. But the cork popped....I can't be nice and bottle it up anymore. He's no further up the ladder than he was 6 years ago when he touted himself as the only truly creative film composer.

"And your attempt to demean Evan (the most rude i ever saw on such kind of forums) whouldn't show that you are that kind of person who shoot in the back."

I don't know what this means, but I assure you I am as loyal as they come. Evan says he hides nothing and says what he thinks...so I did it for once...and as harsh as it was, it was what popped into my head when I read his posts.

Peter Roos...I understand what your saying here...but you do know that IMDb is a site where people submit there own info, right? I could submit everything you've done and it would be posted in a few weeks. This isn't a site with listings of only A-list material. If Evan is on IMDb, it's because Evan submitted his info...and they posted it like everything else that is submitted. The (pre-production) credits for the movie Fear of Clowns isn't something regularly circulating Hollywood. Read the listing...who do you think knows these works exist other than Evan...his anonymous biography is the same one he lists for himself on all his pages, and includes info olnly he would know. He posted the info. I'm not being a jerk, its true.

    And where's my record?

That was exactly my point. I'll give input, and take stances...but I'm not going to tell you I'm the authority on everything, or that I write wonderful music, or that I'm the prized student of some BIG Hollywood guy, or that I get tons of work, or that I make lots of money from my music, or that I have lots of BIG Hollywood friends, or that my IQ is too high to discuss, or that I'll show people how to properly use the full extended orchestration of the VSL. Evan's music is decent...but his attitude is probably what keeps him where he is. Who knows how well he could have done in the last TCM Young Film Composers Competition...but they asked him to write an essay...he probably turned them away when he opened his mouth. If you think I'm way off base go read Evan's essay for TCM.

He writes fine...but he needs to learn some social skils if he's going to work anywhere...and those of you defending is obnoxious behavior are doing him no favors. The bully doesn't learn a life lesson until someone rings his bell. I was out of line...but someone had to call his bluff.

I apologize to those offended. >Newbie

Newbie, Newbie, Newbie. Deary, deary me. [[:|]]

I'm not offended, actually. I'm dissapointed personally, that you felt (in your infinite wisdom, no doubt) that you had to let go of this particular vitriol. I thought we'd covered all this.

For your information Newbie, the last time my IQ was measured it was 162 and dropping.

I can't program a video, spell very well and have trouble tying my shoelaces as a matter of fact. IQ tests were bought about at the turn of the 19/20th century by a Frenchman to test autism in children, Means nothing really. However........

    I haven't killed anyone yet............Newbie

  • You should have put:

    I haven't killed anyone, Newbie.........yet.

That would have been the post to end this thread on.

I have no delusions of infinite wisdom, and will never claim to. I know I'm not perfect.

In fact, I have hard time understanding the tone of all these posts at times as they cross cultural contexts.

I’m not sure whether you just agreed with me and you were disappointed that I backed down slightly from my originals caustic post, or if you’re telling me to knock it off.

Well, let me make it unambiguous, Newbie.

    GO TO YOUR ROOM!

  • OK, I happened to stumble across these last few posts, and I'm quite surprised by them. PaulR, if you are criticizing Newbie for his post on the basis that it is your desire to create a message board "Utopia" where no one gets fed up with anyone and speaks their mind, then I suppose that is a noble ideal. On the other hand, if you are doing it to defend Evans then you are being a hypocrite. Evans destroys that sort of ideal all of the time. Perhaps you've said the same sort of things to Evans at some point (like telling him to go to his room), and if I missed those posts I apologize. I honestly can understand where Newbie is coming from. I think he said what many have thought but have not had the guts to say. It is amazing to me that despite the things Evans says, he manages to maintain some strange sort of support from some of the members of the forum (and if he is your personal friend, I'm sorry....I don't like my friends to be attacked either...however, sometimes the truth hurts and it should be a wake-up call to help your friend get a grip with reality, I care to much about my friends to let them act in unbecoming ways), but my guess would be that it must just be Evans using an alias to agree with himself. [[:D]]

OK, I don't really think he does that, I'm making a joke. Lighten up, sometimes a little venting is good. And I think Newbie's vent should at least be considered as powerful as 50 users [[:D]] Here is where you all laugh.........see, doesn't that feel better. I think a lot of people in this forum need to do more of that, and not take offense to a joke or a rip once and awhile.

You might tear into me for what I've said. I'll chuckle about it and feel just fine. Whether what Newbie said is true or false isn't important. Evans is clearly confident in his skills and doesn't need all this moral support. He is probably laughing right now. Why aren't we?

Yes, thats feels mutch better now. Thank you ever so, ever so mutch. Oh, how I laughed and laughed and laughed.

  • Who needs a sense of humor anyway.
    It's a mutch over-rated trait.

  • Mutch. See what I mean about my spelling? [:D]

  • Since Americans butchered the English language, I thought maybe that was another word we destroyed. We like to change words to suit us, I thought maybe we cut off the t because it just took too long to say it that way.
