  • Vienna Instruments didn't work, problem solved

I worked some month without problems with my Vienna Instruments. Then I had a Crash of my computer harddrive (the Vienna Instruments are on a extern harddrive). I installed everything again. But it is unpossible to use Vienna Instruments again.
If I try to start Vienna Instruments in Logic 7 I get: "Custom Data Folder is inaccessible. Please use Directory Manager to specify a new Custom Data folder". To do this, i think I have to choose "Rescan existing" in "vienna Instruments Directory Manager". But nothing happens, only "Rescan existings" disappears.
I tried to install one of the Instruments again. It was not possible. The installation stopped always just for finishing.
All data files of the Vienna instruments are grey and have the word "exec" (in green) in it. I forgot how they look before, but I think they had another look.
What is wrong, what I can do???

  • If I open Vienna Instruments Standsalone, I get also "Error, Custom Data Folder is inaccessible". But then it is unpossible to close this window or the programm. I tried to switch down the computer, but I get: "Der Abmeldevorgang wurde wegen einer Zeitüberschreitung abgebrochen, da das Programm "Vienna-Instruments-Standalone" nicht beendet werden konnte....." But this is not possible, also not with "Sofort beenden"!

  • Go into the Directory Manager and delete ALL the files. Then go to your drive and select ALL your VI folders and drag them into (the now empty) Directory Manager. Things should work fine now. It's a common problem but easily fixed.

Thank you for your answer, I tried it two times. But first crashed the computer. Second time only the program.

  • Sorry I didn't see that you tried re-installing the instruments. That may be the problem at this point. You may have to delete them from the drive and start over. Do you have the latest versions of all the VI software (Program, Installer, Directory Manager?) Make sure you do.

You may want to wait before you go to this extent and see if someone has an easier answer for you (but my guess is that a broken installation would cause problems for sure.)

  • This isn't schadenfreude, but I did have a good laugh at the subject of this thread...

Tomorrow will delete everything, if nobody has another solution to the problem. Thank you.

    Why?

Numerous reasons, not the least it's apparent total indictment of VSL's product. Not that you meant that but there are some folks saying something like that around here these days. VSL is great as Nick will tell you and works quite well.

  • Right Alban, I don't mean to laugh at you, just the way you put it. If I could help you I would, I promise.

  • Hi Alban,

I assume the problem occurs due to permission problems on your computer. I sent you a PM with a more detailed explanation in german.

    Best,

    Maya

Thank you very much. It was really a permission problem! Now everything works well!
