    Wow. This is quite a process:

    Just bought SE, it arrived today, and I looked foward to installing it and working with it tonight. No such luck! I'm finally going to bed and I still haven't gotten through the installation/activation process!

    First, there are tons of paper warnings, each more dire than the next, telling me I have to go to various different websites and download new updated versions of things. When I go to those websites, it's not clear where I'm supposed to go next.

    Next, I play the installation movie (always a bad sign if there needs to be a movie!), but unfortunately every time I try to stop the movie and do what it says, the movie screen goes away and I have to re-start the screen from scratch... probably just me.

    I finally figure out how to enter my key's number, only to find out (from the movie) that I should have only entered the first six digits, NOT the other digits that followed on the Syncrosoft Screen where it gave the USB number. I wonder if that will be a problem later on...

    Then I have to type in a URL to go to a website (when was the last time I typed in a URL? A link would have been better). Syncrosoft. I finally download a program, but the process doesn't resemble what the movie told me it would.

    Then I go to the VSL site to get the activation code. It says to put in the Standard and Extended Library serial numbers. The Standard one I find, the Extended one, I'm told, is on some other document (the invoice? the box?) or available "from the manufacturer." Anyway, nowhere to be seen. SIGH. Guess I'll take care of that part later.

    Now it says I have to go back to the Syncrosoft License Control Center (sounds ominous!) and enter the activation code. I locate that program on my hard drive, try to start it, and it crashes. And keeps crashing. I re-start my computer, and Syncrosoft License Control Center keeps crashing. I try the Syncrosoft Help menu, but not much there seems to help.

    Finally time to go to bed.

    When I bought EWQL orchestra, I went through the registration process in about 5 minutes (NI is quite efficient). Maybe Vienna's is so cumbersome because it's much better-sounding? [:D] All I know is I love the sounds, if I ever get to use them!

    Maybe tomorrow, fortified with coffee, I'll attack it anew. Good thing I've got the whole weekend ahead of me!

    hi,

    well.. its taking time to first set-up.
    i also had problems with syncrosoft. it crashed several times, because it didnt recognized the vienna key. i deinstalled the software, downloaded the actual syncrosoft-exe and put the vienna key in a different usb-slot (i cant really remember when i did that, i think it was nearly after starting the software).

    once the key is recognized everything is easy. just seems to be complicated.
    log in to vsl.co.at, enter the standard code (with se, i dont think you need the "extended serial", just the standard)... then you get the code for syncrosoft (once the key works, its was no problem to me) and your library is activated in a few seconds..

    the video-tutorial is by the way easy to understand. it help me better than the printed version

    but maybe i was just lucky and someone from vsl can help you better [:)]

    stephen, as far as i can see you have purchased special edition standard + extended.
    whereas the serial number for the standard library is on the bottom of the cardboard box, the serialnumber for extended (certificate) should have come either as printed sheet or heve been emailed to you as pdf.

    having both serial numbers and entering them in one run on the vienna instruments registration page issues a single activation code for the full library. entering one after the other issues seperate activation codes (usually an option for those who upgrade later)

    probably activation is a little bit more complicated at first, but IMO everything related to changing computers or moving libraries to other computers (or running it on a notebook now and then) is much easier and failure tolerant than de-authorize and re-authorize directly on a computer.

    Thanks Christian .... I'm going to de-install the syncrosoft software, as Markus suggests, and maybe try all over again with that part, since it keeps crashing.

    As to the extended serial number, now that I've put in the standard one, and gotten an activation code from it, when I find the extended serial number should I just put that in, secondarily, and then get a second activation code?

    Also, I have NO extended serial number on any of the boxes or paperwork that I received. I've checked everything. I'll call the merchant (Ilio, here in LA) today -- hopefully they're open.

    Nope, the merchant (Ilio) is closed until Monday. What a shame, maybe I can just start using the extended version for a few days until then? Assuming, of course, that I get through the rest of the installation process.

    Thanks for the link to the movie, unfortunately, it's not that helpful since not every step it describes seems to match the process I'm seeing. But maybe I'll give it another shot.

    to reply on a line in your initial post: it doesn't matter if you enter only the first 6 numbers or the whole string (in earlier versions of the license control center the second part of string has not been displayed)

    regarding the issue with your installation of the license control center i would first remove the program running a clean uninstall from Settings - control panel - add/remove programs (or software - wording depends on your windows version) - select the license control center in the list and click on *remove*

    after a reboot of your computer re-install the latest version available on the syncrososft website www.syncrosoft.com/downloads

    it might be neccessary to force an overwrite of relicts from earlier installations which could not be removed ... here is a document which might help http://knowledgebase.steinberg.de/96_1.html - see 1.3 and follow the instructions there

    ps: on your ViennaKey there is a demo mode #1 license for 180 starts, so you can load patches from the extended library several times until you receive the missing certificate and continue with the registration

    Hello Stephen,

    you can enter your Extended Code anytime later. For now you have a 180 starts demo mode on your Vienna Key (if you didn´t order a Vienna Key, because you´re using, e.g., a Steinberg key, please let us know via email to: support@vsl.co.at). This demo mode will help you through the installation process and will also allow you to check out the Extended Library!

    And when you get the Extended Library Serial Number, you will also receive a second authorization code after your registration [:)]

    Which steps are confusin you in the video? What is your setup?

    Basically all you need for the installation (as described in the quickstart guide you find on top of everything in your Vienna Instruments box, it is a bright yellowish sheet) is the Syncosoft License Control Center (LCC) and the Vienna Instruments software itself. Of course it is best to check for the latest updates of both programs (as with all software), but in the case of the Special Edition the latest Vienna Instruments software is included (V1.11) on the Software CD, as it was released not too long ago [:)]

    Please connect the Vienna Key (or any other Syncrosoft key that holds your Standard Library license) directly to your computer, open the Syncrosoft LCC and check if you can see your key that holds the license.

    If you see it, the next step is to install the Vienna Instruments software from your Software CD. Depending on your OS (In couldn´t find a hint...) you will find a folder called "Vienna Instruments" in your programs (PC) or three applciations (all starting with "Vienna instruments") in your "Applcations" folder (Mac OS X).
    Please choose the "Vienna Instruments Library Installer", launch it, insert your DVD #1 in your DVD drive and locate "package.info". This will start the installation process [:)] (which takes a while, it is a lot of data and leaves you enough time to check out the Video Tutorials, which will show you a lot about the new features of the Vienna instruments you are going to use shortly [:)]

    You will need to use the "Vienna Instruments Directory Manager" to specify the location of your Special Edition content. Please follow the instructions on the Video "How to use the Drectory Manager".

    All these movies are also contained on your Software CD ("Video Tutorials"), you can also open it directly from your Sofware CD or copy them to your harddrive [:)]

    I seem to have stumbled my way through the rest of the registration process, and now I'm on to install the library itself (Paul, thanks for telling me that I can enter the extended serial number later on.... that helps!).

    Unfortunately, a new problem: the Library Installer won't let me install the library to the external hard drive I'd planned to use. The drive, a 372 GB Seagate (FAT32 File system) has over 246 GB of free space, so size can't be the issue. When I try to install, the Installation Progress freezes at 0% for a long time, and then finally says "Cannot write output data - Disk is full or inaccessible for writing."

    What to do? I do have another external hard drive, but it has about 60 GB free and since the library is 54.85, I thought that seemed a bit close to the limit....

    Any ideas? The hard drive I'd like to use works just fine and has given me no problems.

    Sorry to be such a bother...

    One further thought: if I could install it on the smaller hard drive (the 60 GB), and assuming that worked, could I then MOVE the library later to the hard drive I'd like to use? Or is that a bad idea?

    So now I'm really stumped. I can't seem to load the library onto any external hard drive. [:(]

    Hi Steve. You mentioned FAT32 file format? Does that mean you're using Windows 98? If so, that might be a problem with Vienna Instruments.

    P.S. This is just a wild guess, I'm no tech. Apologies if I got it wrong!

    Hi Conquer, no, I'm running Windows XP Home Edition, and every other sample library I own (and I own a lot!) all load and run perfectly on it.

    My external hard drives are all USB connected, and they're all working fine.

    I'm really stuck here... unless someone can help me, I don't think I can use the Vienna Special Edition software... this is a real problem... [:(]

    Any help, anyone? I sure do appreciate it!

    After two days of trying everything thinkable and 'unthinkable' the Syncrosoft LCC still refuses to get installed on my XP-machine. Whatever I try ... in the end the machine freezes.
    This means I even cannot install the standard and the extended library of the Vienna SE on my machine.
    You can imagine how I feel. I did mail Christian about this 'problem' but I still haven't heard from him.
    It's okay when you try to protect your software, but when it comes at a price like this ...

    It does work on external drives, although from my experience USB is not the way to go. If you install the library onto an internal disk and then copy it, it should work, providing that you run Directory Manager afterwards to "tell" the player where the sample data is.

    So maybe I'll try that.... Unfortunately, I'll have to UN-load soem stuff off my internal hard-drive first -- like, other sample libraries!

    This is quite an involved process, I must say.... I've NEVER had a sample library be this complicated to install!

    But I can hardly wait to use it!

    Paul pm'd me, and suggested to turn off my anti-viral software, and THIS APPEARS TO BE WORKING! [[[:D]]] [[[:D]]] [[[:D]]]

    So, good future note in case other people run up against this problem.... the AV software may not allow you to install the libraries. I didn't expect this since my other libraries passed through just fine. Anyway, IT'S LOADING NOW!

    steve, could you please name the AV software to have that filed - so far norton and zone alarm is on my list of suspects as well as the OS X built in firewall in stealth-mode.

    Hi Christian, yes of course:

    It's Norton 360, latest version. I'm not very happy with it, for the same reasons that everybody else isn't happy with it, so I'm probably not going to have it for long!
