ps: the behaviour *works with less load but crashes with big load* could also point to bad RAM ....

Hmm.. that would be bad news. But the problem only occurs with the VI,
not when I load huge projects with other soundlibraries.
Also, it started after I installed the Cube this weekend.
Until Friday, I was using Orch. & AP-strings all the time, to maximum memory.
    No problem at all.

Also the loading of my other libraries from the E-disc goes fine.
Nevertheless, I'll run a disc check nonetheless.

To help me understand this better: what precisely happens during the launch of the first VI-instance? Does he check the sound volumes that appear in the DM, and then communicates with the LCC key?

    Thanks once again!

  • Here's two ore options I didn't try yet, perhaps they could help?

    1. Uninstalling/ reïnstalling the VI software (is there anything I should be aware of, apart from backing up the Customs Folder?)

    2. Adding the folders one by one via the DM, instead of dragging from the
E-drive directory. Just intuition, I know little about PC's. But maybe it's just...too much to handle, with all the subdirectories at once?

I'll try these in an hour or so, unless you yell: don't!!!

  • the process in short:
    - adding folders to the directory manager causes the respective collections to be displayed in the *right wing* of the VI
    - for every added collection the VI checks for existing licenses
    - additionally displayed in the *right wing* are custom presets stored in the custom data folder

adding folders one-by-one using the add-button does basically the same as using the drag&drop method (although it can get tiring ...) - the latter just recurses additionally through subfolders and adds them too.

maybe a clean uninstall will really help ... start - settings - control panel - add/remove software ... select ViennaInstruments - remove.
i'd recommend a reboot before (to make sure no related processes are running) and after the uninstall

browse to C:\\Program Files\\ and check if the Vienna Instruments folder has been removed - if not, please do so manually (just for security)

    - then re-install the latest VI again

  • Dear Christian,

Thank you very much for the thorough explanation!
I did the reïnstall, but unfortunately: no help.

    But then I tried this:
In the DM this time I added folders manually, one by one (you're right, a tad tedious it is...), and did not include the main folders.

You see, when installing the Cube, I installed them in (self-created) main folders like:Violins Solo, Chamber Strings, Woodwinds I etc...
So I figured: maybe the DM has a problem with my self-created main folders...?

Well, after adding all the folders in this way... it worked again [:P]

I'm not sure whether it's because I did it manually in the DM, or because I did not include the main folders... But hey, it works so I'm not complaining!

So thank you once again for all the help, it's finally playtime now!

    Big cheers,

    Alex

  • Just wondering (silly as it may sound) : does it make any difference whether (on my dedicated Sata-drive where all my soundlibraries are) I:

    - Place all the subfolders (01 Violin Solo ...etc) in one big folder
    - Make different folder (Strings/brass/Woodwinds/Percussion) where all the relating subfolders are placed?

Or shouldn't it matter at all?

    Thanks in advance,

    Alex

  • Hi there,

I'm still not out of the rain, unfortunately..
Starting up the first VI-instance still takes a long time.

With only the Strings (Orch I,II,Chamber,Solo & Ap) listed in my Directory Manager: about 4-5 minutes

With the entire Cube + AP listed in the DM: about 10 minutes.

I've checked everything that I could think of, and I can only conclude that my PC is running smooth & healthy on every level.
Except when starting up the VI.

I'm losing valuable time, so any help would be highly appreciated!

    Best,

    Alex

  • alex, this would point to the fact of an outdated LCC and/or ViennaInstruments software ... this behavious has been a problem some months ago ...
    christian

ps: as always i'd recommend a reboot before and after updating anything related to LCC and VI ... just to make sure no related processes are running

and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.
  • Hi Christian,

I'm afraid it's not that simple, alas.
All the software is rather new (purchased Orch Strings I,II + AP in february,
    Cube last week).

The Vienna instrument software is the latest.
As for the LCC, I had already version 5.2.6.2 installed in Feb, upgraded now to 5.2.8.1, but loading time for Strings only (Orchestral, Solo, Chamber and AP)
hasn't changed: still 5 full minutes.

Any other ideas are welcome of course -[:)]

    Alex

  • just a thought ... to which location have you set your custom folder? anything with a lot of other (unrelated) files inside?
    christian

and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.
  • No, it's a clean folder located in its default place (I reinstalled VI a few days ago to see if that would help) with only a dozen or so matrixes I created. Just to make sure I even removed all after reading your last reply, but that did not influence the startup time.

Remarkable thing is that this only started after I installed the Cube, before that, with only Orch Strings I,II and AP Strings everything went as smoothly as one could wish. Startup time within 2 seconds. Oh, I also installed the GVI around the time I installed the Cube. Could that be related?

Another thing I tried (just to narrow down all the possible reasons, even the less usual suspects) was to move all non-Vienna related licenses (Tascam, Nuendo etc) to a different Dongle, leaving only the Vienna licenses on one dongle (the original one I received when purchasing the Strings last month)

    Curious about your thoughts-[:)]

    Thanks,

    Alex
