Apologies for starting another one of these, but my head's about to explode from information overload. Let me start with my setup, and then my questions:
G5 Master - Dual 2Ghz
6Gb RAM
Logic 7.1.x
Vienna Instruments
MIDEX 8
Evolution Keyboard
MOTU 2408 mk3
Mini Slave - Intel Core Duo 1.83GHz
2GB RAM
Plogue Bidule
Vienna Instruments (percussion license)
M-Audio Profire ADAT (with MIDI)
I've got the Mini working well now - new HD, extra RAM etc. I've got VI working as a node in Bidule, and the sound is coming through to the G5 without pops or crackle.
I have connected the MIDI in on the Profire to Channel 1 of my MIDEX 8. I can't figure out what to do next.
I'm a complete newbie with Logic Environment - how do I tell it to send MIDI externally? This was easy enough in Cubase, but a nightmare in Logic.
Am I right that I can't set up multiple instances of VI on the slave and have them receive on separate channels? If so, this ruins my hardware plan.
If I was to spend £150 on MIDIoverLAN (grr - why so pricey?), how would I set up Logic/the G5/the Mini/Bidule to talk effectively?
What's the difference between standard and pro versions?
When I mix down, am I right in thinking that it will work in the 'old way' (Giga-Slave) - to record each channel in realtime playback? There's no way to export the tracks as you do in Logic?
thanks for any help - this looks like a great solution, but my head hurts...
Peter
