  • Hi Tom,

in our experience an overheated DVD drive can be the cause for this behaviour. Did you try and let the DVD drive rest for 5 minutes between 2 DVDs?

  • just to have it mentioned: you're on OSX 10.4.x? - 10.3.x would not work

and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.
  • Guys, this is what I am trying to install:

    May, 2006

    Version 1.06 XP & OSX

    - Core optimizations, faster startups when adding multiple instances, slightly smaller memory footprint per instance
    - Graphic usage optimizations - now more GUIs can be popped up at the same time
    - Directory Manager now has option to select multiple items for deletion
    - OSX VST version included

DVD drive is not involved. Yes on OSX 10.4.6

  • silly question ... you have downloaded the file ViennaInstrumentsSoftwareOSX-1.06b-ppc.zip ... any other would not work on a PPC mac

Yes I have downloaded the Mac OSX installer.

  • you see me clueless now ... anything i've overlooked?
have you tried to remove all VI related files manually too?

  • I'm not sure why I would be removing VI related files just to install a new software update. Can you explain? I have never had to do anything but click "INSTALL" and that was it. Something is strange for sure.

    Still need help.

    Thanks

  • Tom, I've been watching this thread for a few days and have held off on installing the rest of my cube because of it.

I have often had to remove all of data in Directory Manager and put them back in order for them to work. Why that must be done is well beyond the scope of my understanding.

Not sure if you ever got it going. Please post when you do and how you did it.

    Thanks.

  • Tom,

You are right, something is going utterly wrong for sure! This is definetely not known behaviour of version 1.06 PPC under MacOS 10.4.x...

Please excuse another possibly stupid question, but you are not using one of the new Mac Intel computers, are you?

CM meant to delete any previously installed Vienna Instruments software like the Directory Manager, the standalone VI and even the AU plugin from the Components folder, because the installer might, for some reason, not see the need to update the software.

At which point exactly does the installer quit? Are there error messages involved?

  • JWL,

Toms problem seems to be the software installer and not the content, so I´d say it is safe to install the rest of your Cube!
