    The problem is: I get a click sound when I do a slide on the Viola patch in ---->

    "VA-10_mV_perf-leg_f_porta".

    Sliding from "G#1" to "G2" gives me a click.. it doesn't happen on any other notes only those two and only in that direction "up to G2" (not down).



    On the slide it "clicks" (sounds like what a mismatched sample rate sounds like, or if someone clicked their instrument).... I'm pretty sure it's in the sample (WAV) "between" the notes. What can I do? It doesn't do it if I don't slide, and it doesn't do it whit any other notes (that I've noticed). Is this in the sample from the factory, so to speak?


    How can I edit this? GIGA is a PITA to try and figure out how to edit..... I don't even know where that "goining sample" is?

    BTW I'm on 2.5


    Simply can someone please tell me "how" to get to that sample in Giga 2.5.... (I'm basically a Mac guy and have no clue what I'm doing with PC's)

    Not to mention in need to fix this ASAP!!!

    After reloading that gig file it seems it is in the sample..... crap! What else could it be..

    Please if some one could help, time is an issue....

    Yeah, when you post after 11.30 pm it's quite likely that all Europeans are asleep. Either that or having a life [:D] Welcome to VSL forum anyway...! I'll check this later on when I've had breakfast.

    I've checked it some minutes ago. Well, mine plays fine (First Edition).

    Which edition are you using ? Pro ? First ?

    today is a holyday in vienna, so I'll look at this problem tomorrow.
    You've the First Edition registered, so we are talking about First Edition?
    With "G#1" do you mean the lowest "G" of the violas, or the "G" above middle C.
    Our labeling uses C4 for middle C. That would mean starting note "G#3" or "G#4"?

    I don't hear anything on G#3 to G4 (however, I have Pro edition). Fistly post an mp3 (no reverb) of the click so that we can hear what you are hearing. Secondly I seem to remember that some of the early releases of the DVDs contained problems with clicking on some samples. Check what date your DVD was created, then a search might uncover this topic (I will meanwhile try to post a link to it).

    This file shows 4 things in this order........


    • that it clicks at any velocity

    • that it'll occur at any point in the sample when activating the slide.

    • that it doesn't do it if you don't activate the slide sample

    • that it won't do it with the same notes in reverse (although it's a different sample right?)


    These are the only two notes that'll do it in this patch....


    This DVD says it was created "Mon Dec 23, 2002, 6:51 AM"


    Thanks for the welcome DG, but well, I expect everyone to stay up all night waiting by the computer "just in case" I might possibly need help. :p Is that too much to ask..........? [;)]

    I can't hear a click at all on your mp3 [:O]ops: What I do hear is a release time on the first sample that sounds too short which almost gives a small gap, no matter what the tempo is. You could increase the release time for all samples in the Giga editor, or otherwise create a modwheel (see Herb's instructions) controlled release time and just increase it for this interval.

    But there is definitely a click in there. Like I said, it's subtle. But it's distracting enough that I can't mix with it like this. So I'm pretty screwed till I figure out how to fix it.

    What are you listening to playback on? I can clearly heat it through my Gens on the MP3. Listen for it to click right after the release of the first note on the "transition" to the second note.... right at that moment. But it's not there if I play the notes separately (without the slide). So that makes me think it's in whatever sample the slide uses.

    There's an actual sample used for that "transition" isn't there?


    It's the type of click you'd hear if you needed to add a cross-fade to a sample that starts with a "hard in" (for lack of a better definition), vs gradually starting it's attack with the cross-fade.

    fwiw, I hear the click. It's just like kid surf describes it - the kind of click you'll hear when you are, say looping a sample, but haven't quite found where the wave form ends at a zero value for the loop point.

    But kid, in a mix with a bit of verb, are you sure you can't get by with it? It isn't that loud.

    Ah yes; I was listening to the wrong thing. [:O]ops: As I said earlier I was more concerned at the release time. However, when asking violas to do this sort of portamento I'm surprised that there are not more clicks as they change string and finger. [:)]

    Even without reverb I would suggest to increase the release time for that sample. With the normal legato instruments you have to be careful as it could mask the transition material (legato change), but with the portamento instrument I don't think that this will be a problem.

    The other thing is, NEVER do any live recording if you don't like studio noise. You'll end up editing ever other note [:D]

    DG --- Somehow clicks sound better when it's a live recording. [[[;)]]] If that were case I wouldn't care.... And yes, I'm familiar with live recording. [[[;)]]]


    The thing is, I want the "choice" to not have a click in the same note forever... [[[;)]]]

    As far a difficulty to play... I just write what I like. I guess the player can figure out how to play it right. [;)]

    waahhooo - kid was right - after listening to the specific sample alone using the editor I also can now clearly hear this little click :-O

    I also did download the replacement files, but now I'm a little bit confused:

    Isn't it enough to replace the corrupted .WAV file, and then simply save the .gig ? Do I really need to apply the .art file ? The problem is, I allready updated all my performance-instrum. using the GS3 .art files. Is is save to apply this patch on updated files ?

    Without an artfile the replaced sample would be transposed wrong.
    You can manually drag the rout keys of the replaced sample to the right octave (from g#4 to g#2), or you can apply the giga 3 artfile once again, which should also move the routkey of the replaced sample to the right position.
