Was just informed about a post by Paul on March 15th in the main VEP7 thread that updates everyone on the status of work on VEP7. It is good to see that there is some optimism for a release in weeks rather than months.

When you find it, could you share the link with us?

It's a post on the 16th page of this thread:

I can't figure out how to link to one particular post, only the first on the page. Just scroll down to Paul's post dated March 15th.

  • The trouble with creating such pre - release excitment, is that when it does come, it can only be an anti climax !

as the expectation will grow more than what it could ever be.

The only thing it could do, is to include effects - maybe even MIR,  and that would be good for many, but as a Vienna Effects and MIR owner,  that isn't going to do much for me, which is why I didn''t pre-order.

  • As someone who purchased VEP 6 near the middle of December, its the only thing I feel a bit burned on, having to pay for an upgrade so soon after haivng just purchsed 6, especially since I only need 1 license.

I do not have MIR or Vienna Suite, so in my view, some sort of "light" version of these in Ensemble would be a great addition, especially since many other soundfonts have some form of many of the basic functionality that Vienna Suite has, provided free with the purchase of a soundont. I am a big fan of templates in particular for sketching ideas quickly, and as MIDI has just gotten out of hand in the past decade in the way of complexity, I would love to see templates built-in to Ensemble. There is no reason Ensemble cant detect what Vienna products you have a license for and create a template on the fly, and allow for modification of these default templates.

The choice to split Ensemble into single licenses and provide EO as a seperate purchase is the right decision, albeit, maybe a bit more expensive than it should be.

I am a bit puzzled as to the lack of details at this point. There must be some big feature that VEP7 is going to do, it seems bizarre to have an update for a few FX addons. Why not share one or two of the big things VEP7 is bringing to the table? While an exhaustive changelog will eventually be called for upon release, surely it cant hurt to spill the beans on one or two big features that are expected to work out of the box.

There's a good many of us that are puzzled as to why there's been no details. Little teaser from Paul and that's it. It would go a long way towards redeeming the goodwill Vienna squandered with this announcement if Vienna were to make some announcements on what's in version 7.

Let me indulge in some pure speculation here and say something: I wonder if the lack of details is due to maybe Vienna licensing some outside developer's product and they either can't get the license or the developer had Vienna sign an NDA? Here's another one - maybe they're running into problem with the minimum computer specs and have to bump them up in say operating systems to the next one up? Whatever the reason is I think it's not due to wanting to nail down everything working perfectly (although that is a must) but something else.

  • If they just started beta testing around the 15th it's no wonder nothing's being discussed.

  • They might be including some sequencer-type features.

I hope not. Better to keep VEPro doing what it's been doing. What kind of sequencer-type features would you want anuyways that can't be done in one's daw?

That date was only when Paul posted here. If I read it right they'd been in beta test earlier than that.

Regardless of it in the beginning, middle, end- if it's in beta they're most likely not going to talk about it until it's ready for release.

Well, apart from the fact that they said they'd do exactly the opposite and have consistently told us they'd give us information before release.

The VE Pro 7 pre-order announcement came out nearly a month ago. Details were not available at that time but were said to be forthcoming.

I did not wade into the Synchron Strings release, but I did observe the disappointment of those who preordered when it took about six months after that for the Synchron Player to be released (according to my reconstruction based on YouTube video releases). I really hope the VE Pro 7 release does not play out like that.

To be sure, VSL does not want to release information about VEP7 features that are not yet fully and successfully working. I just hope substantial information and release is at most a few weeks away instead of months.

I do not expect that I will feel burned by this information-less pre-order. My history with VSL suggests I will not be disappointed with the product once I get my hands on it. But I hope I'm not still relying on a general confidence a month from now.

Agreed on everything you wrote. Have you purchased the upgrade yet?

I sympathize with the 6 month wait for the Syncron Player. Got one even worse. Back a few years East West announced a majpr update for their then flagship orchestral library. People could pre-order at a frozen price and be assured of being the first to get it. This frozen price was not a discount as such because they said the price might well go up upon release. We were also told it would only be a couple of months. Turned out it was more like 18 months AND they charged our credit cards at time of order. So there is precedent for screwing over customers. Which is why I haven't yet ordered the upgrade (VEPro 6 owner).

There is a precedent for screwing over customers???? Your logic is because East West did something then everyone else should be blamed? Ridiculous.

Don't know where you got your interpretation of my logic. Never said anyone else should be blamed for anything. Just that not every company respects it's customers. And who's to say Vienna wouldn't do the same thing? They did it with the Syncron player so there's precedent within Vienna itself.

I don't think you're interpreting this right.  VSL have consistently said more information would come before release, and that's important because we have the pre-release discount.  My guess is that its far more likely that the testing phase is taking longer than they'd hoped (as is so often the case with software) and they want to keep their powder dry until they know everything is going to work out.  I'd be staggered if VEP Pro 7 was out by the end of the month.  Delighted to be proven wrong - asuming 7.0 is stable, mind.

  • What am I not interpreting? They're not releasing info period, it's as simple as that. It will be ready when it's ready.

I don't recall them saying they would end the pre-sale without announcing the final release date first. I'm sure they'll give you all the info before the pre-sale ends.
