  • Latest Synchron player short notes dropping?

Anyone experiencing repeating short notes dropping out in the latest synchron player update for the Strings I?

Basically, repeating notes causes notes to drop on random mic positions.  Voice count can be below 50 and CPU meter/peaks are below 5%.

  • Just rolled back the Synchron Player to 1.0.1076 and the problem is gone.

  • Hi Stephen,

Thanks for reporting, we will check.

Please tell us the basics of your system and your setting (buffers), maybe even send a short email with an exampled to support@vsl.co.at.

    Thanks,
    Paul

  • Hi

I have the same problem with the Synchron Player 1.0.1172 and Strings I.

  • Me too

  • Thanks Paul — I’m (hopefully) wrapping on a project this week and will hit you all up on this next week. I’m using the Synchron products all over this feature. Directors and producers are very happy with the sound!

  • I also have dropouts if this is the right term to describe it. But with repetitions and “short notes” in the legato patches.

With the synchron-ized products there is no problem at all, it's only with Synchron Strings I. The problem has always been existing since the first release of Synchron Player. For me it sounds like that not all samples have been loaded correctly. I have no SSD, by the way.

Curious that the VI (Pro) samples are playing correctly.

  • Hi,

We have not found anything yet.

@Stephen: Looking forward to your example!

@Picelpoet: HDD can of course be problematic for optimmum streaming performance (hence the system requirements).. I'd definitely check out the prices of the SSD drives, they are becoming VERY affordable.

    Best,
    Paul

I confirm this, but just for the sake of clarity, it seems that there were a few happy versions of SY Player that didn't have this problem. Unfortunately, I don't have the version 1.0.1076 mentioned in this thread. @Paul, is there a way to put SY Player 1.0.1076 into MyVSL downloads somehow? The version in "downloads archive" (1.0.1141) is affected, too.

P.S. I doubt it's the HDD/SSD thing, because the problem is reproducible when playing a MIDI clip in a loop, when all the samples are already loaded (I checked hardware usage during the dropouts, there's nothing going on with either disk or CPU).

  • Hi all,

We are just trying to reproduce this here...

Which Mic positions and which patches exactly have you all loaded when the short notes are dropping?

    Best, Marnix

  • I can reproduce this,
I load the Strings all VelXF patch and choose one of the Short or Pizzicato articulations with the Velocity Crossfade set to Off.

The drop outs do not always come directly, somthimes I need to play around for a while before they occur. It doesn't matter if I play fast or very slow.

The drop out is random. If I just repeat the same note, over and over again, some of them will sound and som of them will not sound.

I use two mic positions, Main and Surround, sent to different outputs and then routed to different speakers. The drop outs will be very clear because of the different speaker pairs and in my case it's always the Surround samples that drops. The Main samples never drops for me.

My scenario exactly, except I also use the mid mics so the drop outs are even more obvious

It doesn't work for me with either microphone position. For example, the legato patches trying to play “short notes” or repetitions.

  • People, someone, anyone, please share the (hopefully) working version of SY Player, 1.0.1076. I'm at loss here :)

    Thanks, Crusoe.

  • Hello,

In such specific cases, always contact support@vsl.co.at

We are currently still testing the upcoming update.

EDIT: there never was a 1.0.1076 of Synchron Player. There was a version 1.0.1080.

    Paul

  • Thanks, Paul, I thought you are on holidays! I sent the request, and thanks for the correction.

  • I am having dropouts using Synchronized Chamber Strings.  I recently updated to the newest version of SY player and this started to happen.  It happens during live input, as well as, during playback.  My system has handled larger projects than this in the past without dropouts.

    Specs follow:

Project: 7 Tracks in VE (VI Pro), 5 Track in SY, 2 Track in DAW running VI Pro Instrument Track

Software: Cubase 5.5.3, Vienna Ensemble v6.0.17181 and SY player 1.1.1301, and MIR Pro24

System: OS NameMicrosoft Windows 10 Home

    Version10.0.17134 Build 17134

    System Typex64-based PC

    ProcessorAMD Ryzen 5 1400 Quad-Core Processor, 3200 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s)

    Installed Physical Memory (RAM)32.0 GB

    Total Physical Memory32.0 GB

    Available Physical Memory23.1 GB

    Total Virtual Memory36.7 GB

    Available Virtual Memory26.4 GB

  • Hi Samuel,

What happens if you increase the latency of your soundcard?

Does the preload size you can set in the Synchron Player Preferences play a role (try increasing it to 8192 Samples)?

If that doesn't help, please send me the Cubase project: support@vsl.co.at, with a short description of the dropouts and the location.

    Thanks,
    Paul

  • Paul,

Thanks, as always, for being so many places at once and on point with your suggestions.  I did more troubleshooting on my end last night after posting on this thread.  I learned a couple things that may help others.

I opened my "system task manager" and saw that Google Chrome was utilizing up to 30% of my CPU.  Upon looking into this, I followed the suggestion of Google to clear the cache and reset Chrome.  It has to do with how Chrome makes use of multithreading to preload tabs and adds and any plugin extensions that may be attached to the web browser settings.  Clearing the cache freed up the extra CPU power and I am humming along at 7% with a full session of Cubase and VSL playing.

In summary, it would appear that my audio dropouts were not related to the SY Player and was, instead, due to a third party app hogging resources in the background.

BTW, I love the new humanize features on SY!  Keep up the amazing work!  I am attaching a newly minted piece for you to enjoy.  I hope you have the time to listen to it.

  • Same issue here, any mic:

    - SY strings, short patches
    - SY Chamber, all patches
    - SY Appassionata, all patches

Random issue, some just opened projects work properly. As soon as it starts, most notes are cut with an end click.
