I have tested the installer with Sibelius 6 and Windows 7 here and it worked fine. Maybe you are looking at the wrong folder or you have older versions of the sound sets installed in a different folder. Sibelius looks at several places for sound sets and if it finds sound sets with the same name at different places, it will only display one version of them.

For Windows 7, Sibelius 6 the sound sets get installed to the following folder:
Users\your username\AppData\Roaming\Sibelius Software\Sibelius 6\Sounds

Please check if the sound set files have been installed to this folder.

It may also be necessary to remove sound set files with the same names manually, if you have them located in different Sibelius 6/Sounds folders.

Hello Ricardo!

The Bösendorfer Imperial, the Vienna Imperial and the Konzerthaus Organ don't need an extra sound set. You can use the Special Edition or Special Edition PLUS sound set for these collections.

Hello Andi. I just got Vienna Instruments Special Edition Volume 1 Bundle for a special gift; and, even though the playback device is listed in Sibelius 6 and all instruments are there, it plays back funny... even when I insure that all the instruments are assigned to their proper tracks in Vienna Ensemble mixer and Vienna Instruments. I went through the appropriate procedure in Playback Devices on Sibelius (to my knowledge that is) to transport Vienna to Sibelius 6 and even followed the manul for Optimizing Sibelius Playback; but, it for some reason still plays back funny or not at all. Also, the Vienna Instruments and Vienna Ensemble dll files contain several other funky playback devices that are included on Sibelius of some being Roland JV-1080 Orch; and Yahama XG when I installed it the way I did. I downloaded the VSL Soundset Installer; and, it goes to my local disk (drive C) under Program Files (x86); but, even when I insure it is the right file location in Sibelius, it still doesn't play right. My computer is a 64 bit system with Windows 10 and I really want to get to using Vienna Instruments as soon as possible. Is there a certain file under Program Files or Program Files (x86) you have to look in to find the appropriate file when importing the Vienna Ensemble x64.dll file into Sibelius via the Audio Engine Options in Playback Devices? Which file do I need in order to use the package I purchased (Vienna Ensemble or Vienna Instruments)? I have been at this for a long time; and, any other input you can give me concerning this matter will be greatly appreciated! In kindest regards, Alex Pavlic

Be sure to load the Special Edition presets in the Vienna Player.

Also, think about using paragraphs when you write...

I did that when Vienna came into Sibelius; and, it didn't sound right at all! What file do I have to put the Vienna Instruments and Vienna Ensemble into in order for it to be used properly in Sibelius when I import into Sibelius via the Audio Engine Options under Playback Devices? The manual isn't helpful at all in resolving my issue since it leaves out a couple steps of some being... the file it has to be in; and, how you import the files into Vienna Ensemble. Andy, how do I get it to work properly in Sibelius and export the Vienna Ensemble and Vienna Instrument players into Sibelius... without it adding other stuff? PLEASE HELP!

    Sorry about the way I responded. I am just really frustrated with getting the package I bought to properly work in Sibelius....without all the unecessary files in the Vienna Ensemble player and funky playback, and configuring it properly via the Manual Soundsets under Playback Options in Sibelius to no avail. Here are my main questions I am asking concerning the Vienna Syphonic Library Special Edition Volume 1 Bundle in my other message.

One, what file do I have to move the correct dll files to in order for it to properly load in Sibelius 6 via Playback Devices? On Windows 10 specifically? Do I need the 64 bit dll files or the other files in order for it to work on my 64 bit system?

Two, when I import the Vienna Ensemble and Vienna Instruments Player into Sibelius, how do I do it without adding a ton of other funky playback devices that are already included with Sibelius? How do I take out the funky playback as well?

Three and last, do I import the proper files into Vienna Ensemble 5 before I open Sibelius or during a work?

I am going to try a couple other things; and, I will most likely look at the Sibelius manual and see what it says. There is way to get it to work properly; but, it may take some time. Any input on how to get it to work on Windows 10 is greatly appreciated! Please help!

I have the Vienna Instruments and Vienna Ensemble dll files in the same folder under Program Files (x86).  I scan the folder with Sibelius; but, it only displays Vienna Instruments in the Playback list under Playback Devices. Not sure what you mean by funky playback devices...

VSL installs both 32bit and 64bit versions. Pay attention to the locations when doing the install. You need to add the 32bit location in Sibelius.

I understand that Bill. When I downloaded the Vienna Ensemble and Vienna Instruments, I downloaded it into the Program Files (x86)/Common Files/Steinberg/VST2 area on my computer, I then opened Sibelius. Then, I went through the usual process of adding a new playback device. It then opens up and appears in the Playback Window, I activate it. As I look in the list, the list looks similar to another playlist that was included with Sibelius 6. How about we go back to the beginning? The manual says I have to add the sound sets to the sound set file.  What sound set file is it speaking of? Do I have to add the .fxp files to the VSL Custom Data folder before I ask Sibelius to open the Vienna Ensemble and Instrument playback devices? I understand that you have to pay attention to where you install the dll files.

The Soundset installation should place all those things correctly. I don't have Sib6, so can't help on specifics.

Start the Vienna Enseble 64bit server before you open Sib

Load the proper VSL house style when you create your score

When you load insturments in the VI player, be sure to load the specific ones for SE, not for the full instruments

Sibelius 6 is only available in 32-bit, so you will have to load the 32-bit version of the Vienna Ensemble plugin. The plugin file is called "Vienna Ensemble.dll". The folder where this file is located needs to be added to the Sibelius/Play/Playback Devices/Audio Engine Options/Effect folder menu.

The Vienna Instruments installer doesn't install "funky devices" - just Vienna Instruments and Vienna Ensemble.

Don't open Vienna Ensemble standalone. Activate it from the Sibelius Available devices list.

Where does the manual say that you "have to add the sound sets to the sound set file". This doesn't make sense.

You don't have to add .fxp files to the VSL Custom Data folder. That has been done automatically by the Soundset Installer.

Okay. I'm specifically talking about where the dll file(s) have to be in order for it to open properly in Sibelius Andi. In Program Files (x86) to be exact. Where in Program Files (x86) under Local Disk C do the dll files have to be in order for Sibelius to scan them properly? Does it matter? I know how to have Sibelius 6 scan a new playback device; so, that isn't the problem. It is where the file has to be in the area I just mentioned that is the issue. There are two dll files that I notice which are the Vienna Ensemble.dll and Vienna Instrument.dll. Do I have to have Sibelius scan the folder containing both (or Vienna Instruments.dll), or just the Vienna Ensemble.dll? I know when I was using Garritan, it opened up several playback devices after I re-opened Sibelius. Will Vienna open up the Vienna Ensemble and Vienna Instruments when I have it scan the file containing Vienna Ensemble.dll? In order for Vienna to work, do I have to use the Vienna House Style and start a score from scratch; or, can I use another score created in the past? Using the Vienna Ensemble with Sibelius isn't the issue either. Sorry about all the questions. I just really want to use the program and have it work as it should!

Okay. The Vienna Instruments and Vienna Ensemble are in Playback Devices now. Which sound set do I select for Vienna Symphonic Library Special Edition volume 1 Bundle? Does it all depend on the project?

It's good to know that you have managed to activate Vienna Ensemble in Sibelius now. As the Special Edition Vol. 1 bundle includes Special Edition Vol. 1 and SE Vol. 1 PLUS, please use the sound set "VE Special Edition PLUS".

You don't have to use the "Vienna Symphonic Library" House Style, but it's recommended to import at least the Dictionary and the Instrument definitions from this House Style.

It's not necessary to start a new score. You can also create a Playback Configuration with our instruments for old scores.
