  • SE Vols. 3 and 4 Installation And Patch Folders In VI Pro

Having recently taken full advantage of the May sale on Special Edition products, I installed them normally so far as I know. However, when I go to insert their patches into VI Pro matrix slots I notice that for some reason the new instruments contained in them are not segregated into their own subfolders. Instead they patches simply list at the end of their main section.

For example, previously installations of Vols. 1 and 2 resulted in something like this...

    --- 12 Oboes (main folder)

------- 00 Oboe advanced (instrument subfolder)

------- 10 Oboe vienna advanced (instrument subfolder)

           .11S OBvn staccato (patch)

           .12S OBvn sustain (patch)

    (etc.)

But for these two volumes it looks like this:

    --- 12 Oboes (main folder)

------- 40 Oboe ensemble advanced (previous instrument subfolder)

51S EHvn staccato (new instrument patch)

52S EHvn sustain (new instrument patch)

(No new subfolder for new instrument!)

Is this normal, or have I perhaps introduced this behavior by some inadvertent mistake in installation?

  • Perhaps a screen shot is in order to illustrate my question, my problem.

As you can see below, the (French) English Horn patches are collected in their own discrete folder, as are the (French) Oboe Ensemble patches. Both these are installed as part of previous Special Edition volumes.

But the Viennese English Horn patches, and the Heckelphone patches, both from Special Edition volume 4, are not contained by any folder save the higher level general Oboe folder (not captured in my screen shot).

I have no idea why this has happened, and it makes it more difficult to deal with when doing a lot of patch dragging. There is much more likelihood of making a mistake and dragging the wrong patch. I also have no idea if this is the result of something I did inadvertently in installation, or simply the way the last two volumes of the Special Edition install as compared to the first two volumes.

Again, I appreciate any help or insight.

  • Bump. I don't need an answer to this question right away, but I hope to get an official answer at some point. Or maybe I should raise this with technical support next week?

  • Hi DaddyO,

the extrafolders of instruments of Volume 1 and 2 contain the extra PLUS patches. (which are not visible in your screenshot, you have the click on any of these folders and these extra patches are listed) All the basic articulations of all instruments are placed outside of these folders.

Instruments of Volume 3 and 4 do not have any PLUS articulations therefor no dedicated folders are need for these instruments.

Ah, okay. So I didn't install anything incorrectly, it's by design. It's been awhile since I just had Volume I with no PLUS, so I didn't remember anything about there being no subfolders without PLUS articulation patches.

I wish the design either implement subfolders for all instruments within a group or allow the user to create his own subfolders, but it looks like this is not an issue for most people.

    Thanks!
