  • I really enjoyed this. I'd actually never heard this piece before, and your rendition of it was a real treat. Thanks for sharing.

  • Very nicely done William.  I love the way you handle the string programming.  As I listen to it, I feel like I'm listening to a live orchestra.  I find that to be the case with everything you have placed out on this site as of late.  Great Job.....

  • A fine production, congratulations. Is this a part of some sort of a suite of Grieg's orchestrations (such as the Lyric suite) or is it just one piece?

  • Thanks Brian and Chuck!

Goran, this is Grieg's orchestration of the second of the "Two Elegiac Melodies" for piano. Greig later orchestrated it. I noticed, once hearing the Koussevitsky-conducted performance of this piece on a 45 rpm record, how the string scoring by Grieg is so good.

  • Really nice work you somehow found to treat us with William. Congratulations on this concentrated effort, I can't believe you did this in two days!

  •    Beautiful performance, William. You know, I began to work on this little gem short before I got mail and somehow changed my plans for the immediate future (^_-)... so I'm glad you took the job (^_^). Life can be really funny sometimes...

I can still vividly remember the impact this piece and its "couple", Heart Wounds, had on a young boy who didn't even know what a subdominant was at that time. It's really nice to have it "VSLized" now. Congratulations and many thanks for sharing!

  •  Errikos, thanks!   Servando, thanks  also, but were you going to do this piece?

  • Yes, a funny coincidence! I already had the score done in Sibelius, and a MIR template ready to go... but due to some other interesting projects ;-) I decided to suspend my work on classical works, so that I can start focusing on the production of my own orchestral music.

  • Very nice work, William. I didn't know this orchestration of Grieg. The realism of the violins is impressive, indeed. Thanks for these few minutes of musical joy. Philippe

  •  thanks Philippe.   I've been enjoying your classical performances here myself.  I like the way these classics have given a new section to the VSL forum.
