  • No Sound in Vienna Ensemble 4

    Hello at all,

I try to use the new Vienna Ensemble 4 to make music with the Vienna Special Edition Standard.

My problem ist the following: Everything I do, I have no sound at all. I have switched between all audio devices and different Vienna Instruments. Even I have changed from Output from >Master Bus< to >OUT 1/OUT 2< and back. Nothing.

My operating system is Windows 7 32-bit, SP1; Vienna Ensemble 2 as well as Vienna Instruments Standalone 2 and 4 are working fine ...

Is there somebody with the same problem or has a solution as well?

    Hope for good news ...

    Richard W.

  •  Please can you give a detailed, step by step with a fresh project, so that we can see where this is going wrong for you.

    DG

  • OK:

    - opening VE 4

    - add Instrument

    - go to PATCH ASSIGN page

    - load e .g. Oboe (02S OBfr sustain / 6 MB)

    - play some notes on the virtual keyboard (possible tones in the instrument's range :-P ) --> no sound :-(

    - opening Audio/MIDI Preferences and switch between different output devices - nothing changes .....

Is that the way you wanted to be informed??

    Greets,

    Richard W.

  •  So we're talking about VE standalone?

Does it receive the MIDI? Have you set the correct MIDI input device?

Do you see in the GUI that there is audio produced?

    DG

  • Yes, I tried to produce sound by using the Standalone, not the VST plugin ...

And yes it receive MIDI data - but this isn't the problem ...

I click some keys on the VE-Keyboard and then you can see peaks in the "eye", the velocity ...

So, sound is generated but I can't here it.

To MIDI: Currently I didn't try to use this, I try to hear  s o m e  noise by clicking directly on the VE-Keyboard.

  • What colour is the information that you see in the eye? It should be green for MIDI and blue for audio.

    DG

  • Right!

Every tone that should can be generated makes two non-closed "rings" ...The outer one is blue, the inner one is green.

Every tone out of the instrument's range has only the green inner ring (because there is only the MIDI signal but no tone to generate).

Yes, it's all like it should be, but no sound *grrrr* ...

  • OK, well this means that you haven't set the right output for the soundcard in the Preferences then. What possibilities do you see in the Preferences?

Ok, this I said in my first post.

I have all aout devices tested - more than one time.

Nothing changed (excepted that after checking points with "Windows Audio: " the VE-Keyboard didn't recognize any clicks and this at any instruments; even I changed the output device to another; I had to restart VE).

    Look here: Menu

  • Can you post a screenshot of the audio routing tab as well?

    Here

Erm ... I have know tested it on another PC (installed VE 4 + eLicenser ControllCenter; Win7, SP1) and after a little bit switching between the output devices ..... ..... it was running there *grrrrrrrrrrrrr* [:@]

Why not at my PC (with the same soft configuration)?!?!?! ... Like I said before: VE2 and VI 2 + 4 are running successfully ...

Sorry, I'm out of ideas. I haven't used regular VE for years and even then never without an ASIO soundcard, so I'm afraid that I'm working from memory. [:(]

I suggest that you contact support@vsl.co.at and see what they have to say.

    DG

  • Hi,

Did you try with www.asio4all.com, this will provide an ASIO driver for your PC, which is necessary to make VE (PRO) work. I hope I haven´t missed that part anywhere in the ongoing discussion with DG (thanks, btw!).

    Best,

    Paul

  •  Paul, there has been no mention of VE Pro. Just VE. Also he says that it has worked with all other versions without ASIO.

    DG

  • Ok, I will install it tomorrow & try - I try everything that will bring me sound nearer ...

But like sais before: I've installed it on another PC with no ASIO drivers and it worked fine ...
