  • That's no secret any more: Vienna MIR DL is officially announced since NAMM 09 and should be ready for release only a few weeks after Musikmesse.

  • Hi again, one question I forgot to ask at the musicmesse... having heard the MIR in action was really stunning, I completely forgot about this :-)

so if you load the Instruments into the MIR do you have still the VI Player to edit  the keyswitches etc and if not can you still load single patches creating your own patches or does the mir always load presets... if that is the case, how do the switches (like legato, staccato etc) work?

  • The functions and features of Vienna Instruments don't change within MIR. All additional information is put "on top" of them, so to speak.

  • Differences are quite obvious indeed!

What worries me A LOT with MIR is you need only 1 PC to run a full orchestra. I'm now using 3 PC (and big configs) to get a decent workflow in MIDI only and real time processing. I'm concerned about having this much power need delievered by 1 pc even if it's a i7 with 12 gigs....also, too bad it works only through audio and not network.

Being a real fan of VSL I trust them but I have to admit I'm very skeptical and I may stay with VE3 + altiverb!

    Hopefully I won't!

  • Hi Ramu

I may be wrong, and I have been before[:$], but I believe MIR needs a powerful computer to run on it's own. It won't make your other PCs redundant. They'll still be required to run your libraries and DAW etc..

MIR is also the slave computer, as it hosts your samples as part of MIR. Anything on other PCs will not be included in the MIR processing. it may well be that when an option exists to host 3rd party samplers or audio files in MIR that it would be possible to feed the audio stream from a slave PC. I don't know, but for now it's one or nothing.

This is why I'm kind of worried 😊 But I have big faith in the VSL team! I will use my 2 slave pc as 3rd party VST host (viva Vienna E 3 PRO :))

Thanks for correcting me DG. Obviously mis-read previous posts re MIR.

So that is the second time I've been wrong.[:O]  First time was being persuaded by that salesman to buy the Special Edition and subsequently getting drawn into the world of VSL. Can hardly afford a pint these days, never mind MIR and an i7. Mind you, six months ago I was saying the same about Appassionatas, Woodwinds, Brass, Percussion, Harps, Bosendorfers, Solo Strings etc.[:D]

  • Hey Brian,

I really love the sound of your version (as well as the MIR of course). I was wondering if you don't mind, if you could tell me your setup

    1) What Altiverb IR's are you using?

    2) How many IRs? Are they for different depths?

    3) Do you use pre or post send?

I haven't got a mix with altiverb as good as that and so would really appreciate your input.

    Thanks!
