Hi All
I have an MC Control - switched from using my Mackie Control Unit and love it. If you're interested you can see it
here. However a couple of things to note
1. The MC Control - even with the latest s/w which allows you to programme those "soft keys" isn't really designed to send MIDI data, which of course VE and VI respond to - it might be possible to do something with macros, but I've not bothered to try and find out (I'm using Logic 8 btw).
2. One "Issue" with the MC (which was also there in the MCU too) is that if you're using a multi-timbral instrument (i.e. VE3) then the Control will only show you the instrument as a single track - i.e. you can't select individual instrument channels (i.e. I have 16 instruments in a single VE3 instance) to change volume/pan etc also you can't even use the control to select individual channels to record/solo/mute etc - this is a real pain and something I've asked Euphonix about but heard nothing.
3. Whilst I've had no faults with the control - my experience with Euphonix support is abysmal. I have logged two cases for my issue above and heard nothing back other than a single automatic email saying thanks for contacting us we'll be in touch soon blah blah blah.
The best thing to do is probably use a MIDI controller for automating VE/VI - I often use the drum pads on my AXIOM 25 to trigger keywsitched cells in the matrix - and this works great. My default template has the first 8 keyswitches all the same, e.g. stac, detache, detache long, sustained, tremolo etc for each instrument so I can simply label each drum pad accordingly and it works no matter if I'm using violin, cello, trumpet etc (although no detaches for that of course!)
Regards
Tim
